Brown switch and green switch
« on: Sun, 11 May 2014, 23:08:41 »
Hi everyonem
I am currently using those two keys. My setup is Filco Mejestouch 2 MX Brown and Leopold FC660M MX green
I decided to post my thoughts and feeback here. This is my first time so please forgive me if I do some mistakes (I am new in the world of mechanical keyboard).

I know green and brown are definitively very different beast. MX Green is clicky and MX Brown is tactile.

I have been using these two equally because I think they complete each other very well , that's the main reason I wanted to do a feedback here : they are very different but using depending on the purpose. I am not going to talk about the feelings and sounds.

FOR TYPING :
I am liking both of them but it depends on what you want let me explain that
The Brown keys are light and for typing I use them for type fast. I am training since yesterday to type correctly with my ten fingers  (which I didn't before yesterday)  and my top speed is 110 wpm one these switches. But the problem is when you are not confident, you make a lot of mistake or you press two keys at a time.
The green ones are very heavy. My top speed on these is 92 wpm BUT I do significantly less mistake and I can fell that I am very confident about my strokes.
On the green switch it is very hard to press a key and slide.

FOR GAMING .
for gaming MX green are very bad, especially for RTS and FPS. You need a ligther switch and increase of reactivity. You can do some miss stroke but doesn't really matter in games.
I played games with MX Blue and MX Brown and I personnally prefered the brown, the switch pushing you up is very good feedback in games IMO.

CONCLUSION
I know that it's seem very weird to compare those two switches, but I think it is very important to choose a keyboard depending on what we are going to use it for.
For coding I didn't really have a preference, and didn't find the right switch and I still program faster with my Macbook pro stock keyboard :D
I hope that someone can find something useful here
 cheers

My favorite switch for coding is Matias Quiet. Since you mention you use Mac, I highly recommend checking out their Laptop Pro. Bluetooth + Mac legends + a very sensible layout.

Green: to me it's just too heavy for almost everything. I keep a Green around mostly for weight training. :)
