Anyone have any real life experiences with storm shelters?

We are moving and this is one of the things I'm looking at maybe having installed. It would mainly be for riding out possible tornadoes.

I'm trying to decide between in ground or above ground and also picking between different structural materials.

It would only need to hold 4 people.

It totally depends on the house and site. I have a basement with internal access that is walk-out at the back but completely underground at the front (ground level front door) so most of that is quite safe.

But, if you bought a house with a crawl space, dig out an area and get one of these:
