Seeking advice on clicky boards
« on: Sun, 15 June 2014, 04:14:36 »
Before anything, my daily driver is a RF86U Variable force. I've experienced(and historically owned): Model M(BS clicky), FIlco Majestouch TKL(Cherry MX Blue), Choppo Choc Pro(Cherry MX Black). That was back in China and I brought only the 86U to US when I moved to here for school.

A few days ago I typed on a friend's Razer BlackWidow and instantly began to reminsince the clicky and tactile feeling of that board. I removed a keycap to verify it's blue in color so I assume it's Cherry MX Blue. So I began to look for a board with MX blue switch to see if I'll prefer that than my 86U.

So - I'm a touch typist so I dislike any form of fancy backlight on the keyboard. By that principle, I liked the KUL ES-87 by its standard ANSI layout and lack of fancy lights. However I then noticed for some reason it doesn't come with blue switches...only brown, black or clear.

So here am I , seeking advices from you guys:

a) Any standard, low-profile TKL board with MX Blue switch you can recommend?
b) I'm also considering alternatives - namely MX Clear and Topre 55g. Like I said, if I'm craving for more clickyness and tactile feeling than my 86U variable force could offer, any chance I'll like these?

Thanks in advance for any input!

Ducky
Filco

Topre are clocky. There is no click like blues. Blues and Greens have a unique click.

If you are willing to forgo having a TKL board, then I would suggest an IBM Model F.  They are about as clicky and tactile as you can get and I think they feel even better than the 55g topre switches.
IBM Displaywriter (82 key) | IBM Model F 4704 (107 key) |  IBM Model F AT x3 | IBM Model F XT | IBM Model F 3104 x2 | IBM 6112884 (Green Tee mount Alps) | Realforce 87u (55g) | IBM Model M 1390131 x2 | IBM Model M (1391401 '88) | Leopold FC500R (MX Browns) | Wang (725-5971) (Salmon Alps) | Acer 6011 (SKCM Blue Alps) | White Fox (65 g Zealios) | XMIT keyboard (Hall Effect)

I really liked the feeling of typing the Model F a lot. However unfortunately the 2KRO and layout is dealbreaker for me.

Yeah I'm not crazy about the layout either, but it has NKRO, which is pretty sweet for a keyboard from 1981 lol.

Model M's are 2KRO. Model F's are NKRO, and the layout of a 122-key Model F can also be modded to match an IBM Model M.
Unicomp Classic | Chicony KB-5181 (Monterey Blues) | IBM Model M (1391401) | IBM XT Model F | IBM AT Model F | Dell AT101W | 122-key IBM Model F
IBM Model M13 | Apple Extended Keyboard | Apple Extended Keyboard II | MTEK K104 | NTC KB-6251/2 | Realforce 87U | Realforce 104U | Type Heaven

Clears are not clicky in any way.

Only blues and greens are clicky.
