That looks like fohat's set, I guess someone eventually bought them and then proceeded to not use them.

I think he said he'd put them on eBay if no-one here was interested.

It's a good deal if you have a matching space bar. I imagine the white looks pretty crisp.

No, it is my listing. I thought I had a deal with an international geekhacker, but he reneged.

I tried to make a new classified, but it was turned down because there was no date on the photo.

I spent a long time on a great packing job, and was unwilling to dismantle the package to take a new photo.

$3 discount if you buy it directly from me, but I am not taking down the ebay listing until I have the money.

I wish Unicomp would do an ISO set of these. So pissed.
Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?

Hey, good idea! Like this?

I really would prefer to sell it here, and I am amazed that international buyers are not pouncing on this with my shipping much lower than Unicomp's.

Technically I don't think that image would pass muster in the classifieds. The point is to post an image of the actual product + a note, which is very hard to fake. Anyone can post a note in front of a digital image, and the evidentiary weight is much less...

Of course I am just nitpicking. All lurkers should know fohat.digs has a good reputation on this forum and is a legit seller. Plus, this is a pretty smokin' deal. Surprised it hasn't sold as well.
Please consider carefully before you decide to comment, for Jesus.

How much does it cost of a original one?

$40 + $6 shipping domestic US, $24 shipping international

PS - now this is a good way to circumvent the classifieds rules!

The only Unicomp I ever had was the one that is exactly like an IBM.

If yours has Windows keys, the bottom row might not work right. Can anybody give him a definitive answer?

the red alert you are selling on ebay set is winkeyless, so the bottom row is not compatable to the unicomp ultra classic

sorry........

he can however order 104 set direct from unicomp

I don't use my Model M enough to justify spending more money on it.  Never mind the other one that needs a bolt mod!

Congratulations on a successful sale though :)
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I don't use my Model M enough to justify spending more money on it.

For a casual user who wants quality and durability, "the one true keyboard" might well be the first and last stop.

Buy one, and live happily ever after. That would be my advice.

Funny how most people who get into the hobby move on from the M, in one direction or another.

Actually apparently so. The redesign 104 they did was so that the control and alt keys would be the same size as they are on the 101. So they just made the other keys much smaller. The only difference at that point is the spacebar which wasn't included anyway, and the additional added keys you would need because this is a 101 set.

It may have been the mix of the brilliant white keys and pebble.

Not really for me..

My first computer (the one I happily stole from my mum when I was 3) had an IBM M2 (I should really fix it at some point). Thus I learnt to type on an M. I kept with BS until I was forced into a (surprisingly decent) A4Tech dome, then tried some Acer Alps clones, then Cherry MX black, then came back to an M, and now rock an F-122. All in all, there is something about the feel of a BS that just can't be emulated by anything I have tried so far.

Really, the shortcut with my journey would have been to go from the M2 straight to the F, but I didn't know any better back then.

EDIT: neither did the Soarer mod exist back then...

Precisely my point. I referred to the "casual user" for which the M is ideal.

After I put my F-122 in place, just about EVERYTHING else are plastic toys.

and now rock an F-122.

EDIT: neither did the Soarer mod exist back then...

Precisely my point. I referred to the "casual user" for which the M is ideal.

After I put my F-122 in place, just about EVERYTHING else are plastic toys.

What we really need is an 104/105-key ANSI/ISO layout F. These days you really rather want NKRO... or at least 6KRO

I bought a Model M first.  Then I bought 6? 10? 12? 15? other keyboards looking for something better.

Still use that Model M all day, every day.

p.s.  Of course, it now has custom keycaps from a few different sources.  Because this wouldn't be "WalletHack" if you couldn't double the cost value of every keyboard with custom 'caps and accessories!  ;D
I like keyboards and case modding.  Everything about a computer should be silent -- except the KEYBOARD!

Acer switches are not clones, just as SMK-Alps mount/Monterey Blues are not clones, or plenty of other alps mount stuff.

Acer switches and the way they actuate have more in common with a Model M, because both trigger membranes.

You are absolutely correct in this.

However, the reality is that most users are concerned with feel.

In my opinion, the Acer is a delightful lightweight switch that is not unlike the Monterey blue in feel, although the mechanisms are nowhere remotely similar.

Conversely, or similarly, the Model M and Model F are very different electronically, but are considered similar in (subjective emotional) feel.
