Heyooooo!
« on: Thu, 07 August 2014, 18:26:05 »
I've been lurking on and off for a while, but never really got deep into things. I got a K90 a few years back with Cherry MX Reds, but I never really got into the scene because of the fact that only the alpha numeric and arrow keys were mechanical, which I've grown to loathe. I saw the KUL ES-87 TKL and fell in love, so I just ordered one with reds and I'm expecting it tomorrow. I'm also using an Adesso compact keyboard with Cherry MX Blues  at work.

I work the heck out of my keyboard, so I figure I better learn what I need to do to maintain my new baby, how to personalize it, and worst case scenario, how to repair it.

Oh, right. I guess I can do that with my work keyboard, too.

Welcome to Geekhack!

No complaints from anyone about you using MX blues at work?

I used MX greens, another guy uses MX blues - everyone's cool here :)
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

They tolerate it well enough. We have our own offices and mine's at the end next to an loud vent. Currently waiting on some O-rings to make ensure my keyboard's future survival.

You are lucky. Both at work and at home, people would complain if I would use either of those two.

The O-rings will help with the bottoming out, but not the clickyness.

Also with noisy keyboard people can tell when you are working and when not :))

My coworkers are a bit older than me and actually enjoy the clickiness for nostalgic reasons. They just get annoyed when I'm bottoming out a ton when typing.

O-rings all the way then! :)
