BS kinda grabs you when you first try it.

Everything a mechanical keyboard should be :)
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Two questions: What size hex nut is that on the back, and has anyone opened up one of these to see if we have a jumper so that this can do terminal emulation mode?

The PCB is jumperless.  I tore mine apart trying to fix it (poor membrane contact) ended up scraping the traces right off the membranes.

It's possible it's configured in some other way-- i. e. by some of the resistor packs and unsoldered bits-- but I don't know and lack a means to test.

That sounds far beyond my ability...

For $35 bucks shipped I'm pretty happy.

5.5mm or 7/32 "

Oh I opened mine. It's scary. I think this is the cheapest you can possibly make one of these and have it still function. Pictures to come.

There is a jumper on the controller (as well as 4-5 jacks) I will see what it does.

The PCB is jumperless.  I tore mine apart trying to fix it (poor membrane contact) ended up scraping the traces right off the membranes.
There's a 2 pin connector that's either for a speaker or a config jumper. I'll take a closer look later. you can also order a replacement membrane sheet if you need. Or just use it for parts.

If you're in the market for this exact model, it's a better price than Unicomp. But it's not the answer to the "hey, I've got three square feet of space, I wonder what I should do with it?" anymore.

Well, the seller does have a best offer option, so it would behoove anyone who's interested to give that a shot. I'd offer $30 and see what happens. The worst that can happen is nothing.

It's not the same seller and the pictures are different.  Wonder if the original seller sold his stock to this guy, or there's a sudden excess of Unicomp 122's flooding the Nevada area and resellers are picking them up.

Hey all Matt here...I'm the new seller of the 122 key Unicomp Keyboards.  I do realize that $19 was a great deal on them, and am happy to see that some of you were able to get in on that.  I wanted to extend a special offer to geekhack members only...20% through the end of October.  This is a code-less coupon, but you have to click through the link below to get the discount.  Thanks for the interest in these and hopefully one has a spot in your collection.

Sale URL:

Thanks!
