Wireless Keyboard with Encryption?
« on: Mon, 08 September 2014, 20:55:09 »
Are there any good wireless keyboards with encryption out there?  Especially if they also work with a mouse like Logitech does with their Unifying Receiver.
Also is there anything I can get to make existing keyboards/mice wireless?  I could make something but I don't have the time.

The Matias has mechanical switches, so, yes it's better. I have a wired version and like it a lot.

They may be mechanical, but how do they feel?  I prefer (good) rubber dome switches over most mechanical ones. I've never tried one of those Matias switches.

They have a very noticeable tactile bump at the top of the key stroke. The bottom out is slightly cushioned. They're really quiet compared to other mechanical switches. It takes a medium amount of force to activate, so it's a little heavier than Cherry blue, brown, and red switches, but it's less than cherry blacks.

What is it you liike about good rubber domes over the mechanical boards you've tried?

I like the actuation point close to the top and heavier keys with smooth travel, so it sounds like I may like those.  Are single switches available for me to test?  I think I saw some in a Massdrop a while ago.

Yes, it does sound like you might like them. mechanicalkeyboards.com sells them in 5 packs for both varieties.

I'm not sure if many places sell key caps to use with the switches. I know Signature Plastics has some blanks with Alps mounts. You could also try contacting Matias directly. Edgar Matias seems like a nice guy and even posts here on Geekhack.

There is also ebay for old Alps keyboards. I'm not well versed in those, so I don't know if the less than $30 Alps boards would be a good tester for the world of Alps or not.
