I want them all. Oh ehh i mean Hi.
« on: Fri, 12 September 2014, 05:34:15 »
Hello, i'm totally new to writing posts in english so please forgive me mistakes and bad grammar :D.

2 years ago I got my first mechanical keyboard...I had no idea what I was buying, but it was klicky and shiny so I had to buy it  ;D(Razer Blackwidow).
A couple of weeks ago is started looking for a TKL keyboard and I was disappointed of the amount of TKL with DE ISO layout....there are only a couple of them
available and sadly no 75% ones like the Noppoo Choc Mini/KC84/KBT Race. After reading like a billion german forum posts i found GH and fell in love.
I decided to switch to ANSI just to get the possibilty of getting cool keycaps and a proper mechanical keyboard, now i have to ask u some questions( probably asked x times before) :D

I can't decide, which one should i get.
There is the Ducky Shine 3 Slim, Noppoo , KC84 and the Filco Majestouch Ninja Tenkeyless.
I really like the 75% layout, because of the F-Key positioning and I also like the clean look of the TKL ones.
What's the best in terms of quality and durability ? I really love some of the keycaps i saw in different posts here,
are there any compatibility problems with keycaps or can i use like all the keycaps for every keyboard ? Is there
a good site out there to order an ANSI keyboard and keycaps from germany without an enormous amount of shipping costs ?
Which of those keyboards is the best in your opinion and why ?

Sorry for being a newb.

Thanks to all of you!

Welcome to Geekhack!

Everyone was a newb at one stage, I still am in so many ways :))  Also I can't type properly after a few vodkas and when my hands are cold.

But anyway, You would be German?  The "k" in "klicky" kinda gave it away, and then you start talking about DE layouts ;)

Of the keyboards you have listed, KeyCool have recently changed to Kailh switches, which used to be poor quality.  They might have improved, but there is no definitive indication of that.

The Filco is probably one of ths higher quality keyboards you can get, but got not have a detachable cable, if that is important to you, and is also one of the more expensive standard keyboards.

Ducky is great - I have three of them!

Noppoo is fairly popular, although I can't say I have heard of people overwhelmingly happy with them, but then not many people complain about them either.

There are also quite a few German members here, some of them can probably advise you the best way to get a keyboard in/to Germany.

A detachable cable would be pretty nice. I maybe found a old KC 84 on ebay...but i really don't know if the seller is trusty and if i would really get and old MX one.
Do the old ones have a detachable cable? How does the keycap stuff work ? Can i just get a couple of them and switch no matter which keyboard i have ?

My KeyCool 87 has a detachable cable - I cannot say for the other older KeyCools.

Most keycaps are easily swappable, until you try to swap between ISO keyboards, winkeyless keyboards (those without a "Windows" key), and a few other common non-standard layouts.

I tend to go for ANSI standard keyboards, preferably TKL, and so far I have not had a problem with a keycap set fitting.
