[FS] Checkey, not your average Clack Sale
« on: Sat, 08 November 2014, 17:25:37 »
So like I did with my Hack Orange, I decided to do something a little different with one of my Checkeys and with a few more of my artisan caps down the road.  These are awesome little caps, but I don't use BS much and they don't really go great with any of the BS boards I do have.  So I decided instead to sell it at retail to someone who will love it and use it instead of it sitting in a bag with all my other artisan caps.  I'm hoping that by giving up some of my small handful of artisan caps to people who will really love it and use it, we can encourage others to do the same and bring the whole artisan cap thing back to community instead of the whole stupid drama that we see around them all the time.  The whole point of these is to be appreciated, not hoarded, and I realized that I'm part of that problem right now, even with the meager few I have.

So, here's how it will work:

1. The one Silver Checkey is $24 shipped within the US sent Priority Flat Rate with insurance.  I paid $18+shipping for the cap, so I'm not jacking the price.  I didn't add any value to the cap, I just got lucky to win it, so the price stays what I paid for it.

2. Priority goes to those who do not have any Clacks already.  That said, if you do have some already, feel free to put in for it, the important part is that you use it.

3.  Please no reselling it for profit.  I know I can't stop this, but you're a douche if you do so.  The whole point of this is to get it to someone who will use it.

4.  Tell me why you want or deserve the cap.  Be as creative or boring as you want.  Pictures are encouraged.

5.  This ends on November 14th at 10PM Pacific time.  More will follow.

Edit:  6.  Sadly have to add this rule, thought it was implied.  Do not PM me with offers or asking for a price.  I do not sell above retail for these and I'm going to send them to a home where they will be loved, not a home that throws the most money at them.

Checkeys in action:

My whole collection minus my Gunmrot (who I will never give up since it was part of the laser "sale"):

I'm hoping this encourages others to do similar things.  If not, I'll still be blowing all my trade caps and praying that I somehow get the Ragerot, purple T Clack, and purple T Bro I want.

I don't know that I deserve it, but I have never won a clack drawing, and I really need some 1u keys for my infinity keyboard when it comes in!

Thanks all the same for the opportunity. It's really cool when people in the keyboard community do things like this.

I just want to say that I think that this is really awesome. These gestures really engage members in a fun way and make this place feel even more like a community. I don't deserve this because I'm still without a BS board. Holding out for an SSK. But if for some unlikely reason this keycap can't find a home then my BS tester from 0100010 would gladly wear it with pride. :thumb:

This is an awesome thing to do, it really shows the generosity of this community. I'm not entering because I don't own any BS boards and I won't until I can get my hands on a Kishsaver. Which I expect will take a while  :(.
People in the 1980s, in general, were clearly just better than we are now in every measurable way.

Don't know if I deserve it, but I am getting a 107 key model F, and it is going to be all black with blank keycaps, and I think it could really use a splash of color.

Thank you so much for doing this!

I don't deserve it, because I sold my Sifo's Soul BB V2 when money was scarce, but I've always wanted to get back into the scene now that it isn't scarce. Guess my luck is scarce now.

Regardless, I'm glad that things like this happen! Makes me glad to see others being made glad, so I'm thankful for people like you Nubb.

I'd like it but I'm only new to the scene and while clacks seem to be so sought after I'm not really worried at this point, would rather put the money towards a getting another board.

Oh wow, my first Nubbinator sale, I'll give this a try :)

I grew up with Model Ms in my elementary school (first keyboard that I've ever used), and they hold great nostalgic value to me.

When I was fortunate enough to finally find a SSK in great condition for a fair price, I was so happy that I decided to also build a retro-inspired PC for it!  :p

Ever since, I've been looking for classy novelty caps to add to the SSK, but haven't found anything yet. I feel these will compliment the board perfectly  :thumb:

Good guy nubbs

This is one of the few clacks that I'd go out of my way to acquire. I didn't like it at first, but I've been drooling over it since I saw madhias' pictures of it. There's nothing I'd love more than to give this clack a new home on my F107 which I'm currently restoring, or an SSK that I hope to get soon

I do agree that I need a beige mouse for the setup, but the biggest problem is finding one that will not compromise on functionality... might go for a trackball instead.

Would have loved to apply for the "Checkeys", for my virgin Kinesis Advantage, but as written, the "Checkeys" are not MX :(

Darned, I was thinking hard on what to write and how a few days of browsing around on Geekhack.org is more addictive than any substance I have encountered in my life

I don't own a clack and I have wanted a classy looking cap for my ibm model m for a while. I recently acquired my second model m on kijiji, had to drive quite far away to get it. But it was worth it.

Would love that navy blue and/or forest green BB v2. HavE been looking for my first BB for months now, not having luck in any of the recent sales on CtrlAlt. I feel like it would go awesome with the Calm Depths set. Likely both of them will be given away to my siblings, as this year, both are getting keyboards from me for X-Mas. One will receive a B-87r, the other a LZ-B8.

Did you read the post? Only the checkey is being given away right now.

I don't own a clack and I have wanted a classy looking cap for my ibm model m for a while. I recently acquired my second model m on kijiji, had to drive quite far away to get it. But it was worth it.

Here it is:

Sadly the indicator LED lights don't work on this board.

Thank you for doing this!

Just wondering, do you have better pics of your Model M?

I'm really intrigued by something, it looks like the keys are sitting on a plastic plate, or glued together by a white plastic plate o_o never seen that before.

Apparently I'm illiterate. I already have a Clack, so someone else can have a shot at the Checkey's then. My search continues!

I really appreciate the opportunity that you are giving everyone not in the "Clack club" It can be very intimidating looking at the prices of clacks, and the giant collections some people have. I have really come to love the idea of novelty caps but getting my first clack seems miles away, thanks for making that more realistic for some of us.  :thumb:

Just the regular beige barrel plate. My phone camera made it look strange.
