[GB] Cospar SA - CANCELED
« on: Sun, 30 November 2014, 17:33:37 »
CURRENT STATUS AND CHOSEN COLORS:

  • Group buy happening late 2017, this keycap set is now called Godspeed.

FEATURED MOCKUPS:

KEYSET PRESENTATION:

GeekHack!

Since I got into mechs, I always wanted to design a space themed keyset. I was looking at some NASA archives I've got in my computer and found some incredible pictures, from the Apollo 13 and Apollo 15 Missions, from the Apollo Program and inspiration just came.

  • Cospar is SA (2-1-2-3-4-3) ABS doubleshot, semi-matte top and sides.
  • It is the first SA sculptured keyset that completely covers QWERTY, Colemak and Dvorak layouts.

I'm thinking about 2-1-2-3-4-3, this setup is going to match very well the inicial concept.

Love the set, but could I recommend that you change the logo from a Saturn image to an image of the moon bieng that that was the origional intention of the Apollo program.

I forgot to paste the explanation behind the design.

I chose this icon because I couldn't figure out how to decently fit a "cute" Moon in the doubleshot printing method. I'd need holes for the craters and turns out it was kind of hard to design. Then, I decided to make a "spacey" icon and who doesn't love Saturn?!

Your request is a major design change that I'm willing to take by trying a few more times, in the next couple of minutes, since the keyset is going live 1:00 PM PST.

Anyone else backing up drhubblephd's suggestion?

Well possibly you could do a crescent moon or perhaps create a logo that represents the famous earth rise photo from the moon

Maybe even perhaps you take inspiration from the apolo 13 patch http://history.nasa.gov/patches/Apollo/Apollo13.jpg

After playing a little bit with the layout, here's the best I could do with the Moon.

Very poor in my opinion.

Here's a minimalist orbit icon I came up with when I was designing extra novelties for the keyset.

Nobody said anything so I trashed the idea, but I believe that this is better than what I showed above.

I like how it is unique and minimalistic.

Maybe we should replace Cospar's oficial logo for it and then trash the Saturn idea?

I know this isn't really simplistic but could you consider this logo on the blue background. http://imgur.com/mUHxocl

The first moon rendition has a cuteness to it, if a bit ugly. Cute-ugly.
The orbit looks more like an atomic diagram - Hydrogen, if you would.
Someday somebody will best me, but it won't be today, and it won't be you.

I'm afraid this is way too complex for me to fit on a spherical top.

The Hydrogen atomic structure basically kills the idea behind the logo.

We're back at the square one.

I'll throw a vote for the Saturn symbol, being the most recognizable planet and keeping with the space theme. Pretty much anything else will require too much detail. What I could suggest is perhaps bastardizing the NASA logo:

No words, just the loop and the little triangle through it? Given your artistic skills, I think you can generate an interpretation that keeps to the theme.

It captures the NASA logo theme, and if the people who are interested in this set are aware of the logo, they should recognize that. So up to Dr Hubble to weigh in if he thinks it's good or not.

But, I think the Saturn logo is more recognizable to a larger pool of people.

I think that nasa logo cap is awesome! I think that if you stick with Saturn the only thing differentiating this from the already existing deep space set is the modifiers. I would go with the nasa logo for sure!

In this case, we can pretend that Cospar is the oficial GeekHack Space Agency!

It captures the NASA logo theme, and if the people who are interested in this set are aware of the logo, they should recognize that. So up to Dr Hubble to weigh in if he thinks it's good or not.

But, I think the Saturn logo is more recognizable to a larger pool of people.

Dr. made a statement above, deep space already has the planetary icons and I believe that Cospar should be something that captures an Space Agency feeling. Therefore, we need a real logo, like the "Nasa" one and not a simple celestial body like Saturn or maybe the Moon.

Sorry to see the lack of interest =\
Unfortunately I can't afford it despite my interest, due to Black Friday spending. It's a pretty set, and I thought more people would be jumping at it.

I wrote a wall to post here, but it's not the place.

I'll edit this with a link because I've got an annoucement to make, on the off-topic sub.

Please don't close the thread, but Cospar is dead and I will not be designing keysets nor developing group buys anymore.

Thank you very much for the kind words, you two.

Strange to see it cancelled before it happened but it's probably for the best. Like others said, I have bills piling up.
