Ohh' my. my,my,my, what have i done...
« on: Mon, 15 December 2014, 12:48:04 »
Hello from Sacramento California!

I woke up one day wanting to research more about keyboards and man, how did i not find out about this sooner? A picture of the poker and i was hooked! Caught my interest in 60% sized keyboards...a few threads away and I was on my way to ordering one and bam, life throws a curve ball at ya. What was this? An aluminum case? So smooth and sleek. Tracked down a Duck Mini v2 and still awaiting for my pokerII from Massdrop. Cannot wait, THE EXCITEMENT!

Anyways, hoping I will be able to learn more and more as I carry on my adventures here. Definitely will be posting and bugging all of you guys/gals here. So far so good, wallet on the other hand.....haha'

Quick question, im not used to this forum layout and whatnot, how do you get your keyboard into the 'signature" side of your posts?

Pretty sure his wallet has been hacked already, assuming he meant the Duck Mini V2 and not the Ducky Mini V2  :p

After getting used to 60%, make the switch to the HHKB layout and you'll never turn back!

He potentially already has one lol, and a very nice one at that - Duck Mini V2.

If I was given this advice when I first joined, my wallet MIGHT be happier with me (but then again, I wouldn't have my clicky and thocky babies)

NP!

Someone will take it off hands for sure!

Are you planning on putting the Poker II PCB in that case?

If so, have you looked into GON's Nerd 60 PCBs?

I highly recommend his work and his key programming GUI is just amazing:

I have ran across this pcb, but sadly to say, i don't have too much experience in the soldering division. Only time I've messed with ti was when i was still into car audio and making my own power/ground cables. dripping solder onto the copper wires and the connectors for a better connection. ..... i guess that's a a skill haha.

Side note, When i get itchy enough i do plan on doing a custom pcb build but for the time being i think my cravings are satisfied until further notice.

Quite a collection of parts you have amassed - this is going to be a great keyboard when it's finished :)

Very nice keyboard - and a nice Dolch keyset too :)

I wish I could keep my desk clean.  Mine gets very dusty too!

If you want to try a bunch of keyboards, come down to SF on the 31st. The monthly-ish bay area meetup is at the MassDrop HQ this month: https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=67104.0;topicseen

Yeah, won't be able to make it to the convention, but the wrist pad is just there to wrest. I slightly elevate wrists when typing.

Is the red part on the back just to add additional weight and tilt? Talk about going all out. :-)

Hey there!

Just stumbled upon your intro thread. Wow, you really went all out! :thumb:

That Duck mini V2 looks amazing for a paint job. The coatings look really even!

It is a pleasure getting compliments from you Henry. Again, thanks for the dolch set and the custom cable, they're a pair made in heaven. Unfortunately I wont be typing on the dolch as i will be using it as a photography keyset only to preserve its mint condition.  :-X

And the paint job took ages to get the finish I wanted. Process took about 4 days but I really love how it turned out too. 3000u wet sanding in between each coat.

yeah, my wife hates me because theres always nothing to clean. :p

My other half leave it up to me to clean the computer room.

Maybe that's why there is so much dust in there :))
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

You’re off to a good geekhacky start, with an extra set of keycaps to look at but never use. Now you just need like 10–15 (or 60) extra keyboards so you can type on a different one every day and avoid the need to pick a favorite.

The poker is so small on the desk.....gotta get used to it.

It'd be pretty useless since your cable is obviously fine but I think you should get a mouse bungee just so it fills up the space under your monitor there. They can be had for cheap on ebay.

That'll render my height adjustment on my monitor useless.

Oh yeah i suppose so, I haven't moved my monitor since i got it so i often forget about that. Well, my current monitor doesn't have height adjustment but i never used it on my old monitor as well.
