Filco Wireless Numpad acting up
« on: Fri, 07 August 2009, 06:54:22 »
I'm testing on a Macbook. Don't have a Bluetooth adapter for my Windows box yet.

Pairing goes normally. Then I get the keyboard identification thing (which naturally doesn't apply as the numpad doesn't have Shift keys). The options are to pick Japanese, EU or US layout, or cancel the whole keyboard ID thing. I tried all four, no difference.

Now, when I press any three keys quickly, I only get the first and last one to register. This applies whether the keys lie in a straight line, diagonally, or even each one on unique row and column. Additionally, if I'm in a Terminal, I get error chimes. Just pressing a number key like "7" once produces "7", but also two error chimes, as if the key put out two invalid characters.

Oh, and Num Lock does what it's supposed to, but it also outputs "a".

Any ideas? Is this pad DOA?

Sounds like DOA to me. Some rows / columns appear to be shorted somehow.
Hardware in signatures clutters Google search results. There should be a field in the profile for that (again).

This message was probably typed on a vintage G80-3000 with blues. Double-shots, baby. :D

Yep, looks like I'll have to trouble my Japan-faring friend again to have the thing exchanged under warranty. I may have a working pad in half a year or so. :-[
