My QFR arrived last week. I was and am still ecstatic about it. I got it with cherry blue switches, and I'm very pleased with the layout and feel of the keyboard. Having worked on ****ty rubber domes forever, I didn't really understand what I was missing, or what other people meant when they said rubber domes = mushy. Today I know! I just got to work and my keyboard here is nearly unbearable after working on the QFR for a week.

I wish I could afford another one, but I likely need to wait a few paychecks, or incur spousal wrath. Wondering what I should get for the work comp...definitely needs to be 100%, and quieter than blues. Thoughts?

Yep, QFR is a damn solid board. You might want to check out a MX Red board and add orings since you'll probably bottom out lots. I'm not sure you'll enjoy linear keypresses. Have you ever tried any other mechanical switches?

I haven't. I did a lot of reading before I picked CMX blues for myself, I knew I'd want the tactile feedback, which is why I avoided browns. I'm glad I got what I did. I am really happy with my blues at home, but I think they might drive my co-worker's crazy. I considered the o-ring rout as well. From what I understand there is some variance in o-ring sizes and choices? I wouldn't want something that made it feel mushy. I love the crispness of naked blues.... but maybe something that just dampened the bottoming out sounds a smidge. I need a solution though....I may start toting my keyboard to work until I can afford another one!

Yea, the bump on browns is less pronounced (when typing at normal speeds) than blues and many complain about it. I was able to get passed this and enjoy browns as they are rather quiet and provide a great typing experience, and in my opinion are superior to blues and reds for both typing and gaming. If  you're looking for  light actuation, then I'd say go browns. There are other alternative switches like Topre, which are superior to MX switches, but many of those boards can be on the expensive side.

Take a look at the MX Clears or Matias Quiet if you the bump with less noise.

I was looking at matias switches yesterday. Is there a keyboard that uses their quiet switches that isn't the matias quiet pro? I'm sure its a lovely keyboard...but that case is garish. I think they sell the switches separately, so I wonder if anyone does customs with them...I'm not fully confident in my soldering to try a board from the ground up yet.

I strongly agree. Another reason is that these are all easily available secondhand for a modest price, good for someone on a budget. You don't sound like the type of guy who wants to spend $300 on a super ergo clears keyboard, and browns are very decent value switches.

Hah....yeah, well what I want to spend my money on and what I can spend my money on are not always in alignment.

I saw that KBParadise has the v60 with matias switches - 120$...I might be able to get away with that and a separate numpad. The more I thought about it, the only reason i feel like i need the 100 is for the keypad, not the nav and arrow keys. hmmmmm

I think I probably need to try out clears and browns to make a choice. I might need the higher actuation force in the clears if i don't have as much of a bump. I love my blues, but I could have gone with greens, to be honest. I tend to be a bit of a key thumper when I type at high speeds, but the click helps me from mashing as much.

I used MX Blues for 6 years and now use MX Browns at work because blues are too noisy. When you're typing really quickly, the lighter brown switches really grow on you. Although lacking the click, they provide enough tactile feedback to be useful.

But then again if you're in Singapore you don't have much choice. There are basically only 4 switch types available - the rest are usually not in stock.

i ended up getting the KBParadise v60 with matias switches, and I got work to pay for it! hah. Not sure what im going to do for a num-pad at the moment. I'm sure i'll survive though. :D

My new Kb just arrived! <3 Loving it already. If you haven't tried the matias tactile or tactile quiet switches, I can now recommend them! They are lovely.
