And the nice thing to do would be repaying the seller.

Nasty shoe. :(

Anyway, if it was something as simple as reseating the controller board to fix it, I would feel like I should pay the seller for it, if it were me. But obviously it's your transaction with the seller, and that's between the two of you.

Glad you like your Model M, though.

OP just needs to hope seller is not GH member :p
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

So... you bought a keyboard for $50, thought it was broken, got a refund, kept the keyboard (because it’s too much of a pain to ship back and forth for the seller to want a potentially broken one back), then figured out it wasn’t actually broken, and now are bragging about how lucky you are now that you got a “free” $50 item at the seller’s expense. Is that right?

But anyone who criticizes this whole arrangement is trying to “parent” you, when they should be getting excited?

Gotta say, I’m not too impressed.

On the upside, you have a promising career ahead of you as an investment banker.
