Darn why did this have to come up when I'm short of cash. I really want to try one of those 55g boards.

You can still get them over in Korea one seller on Gmarket indicates that they have over a hundred of them in stock but man they want like $330 for them.

I'm going to have to see if I can find some cash because I would really like to bid on it.

Starting price is fair, and seller looks reputable:

It's tempting, but from the feedback page:

Seller neglected to state that she is a heavy smoker and the item reeks of ciga

I can pick up on things that smell like cigarette smoke pretty easily.  Might still bid; will have to consider.

Well looks like it has gotten noticed. It is up to $150 now which makes it more than I can afford right now which kinda sucks because I really want to try one of those 55g boards. And no I did not bid it up someone else did. I've learned my lessons I snipe them now if I can.

still dont understand sniping.  if you put in your maximum bid, as in the most you are willing to spend, what is there to worry about, and what is the reason to do it at the last second?

There a few things to understand.

1) You are trying to keep the item you want unnoticed thus keeping the price low.

2) Most people do not actually bid their maximum bid. Generally those first bids are just feelers to get an Idea about how much interest there is.

3) The real bidding for a item does not really start until about 5-10 min before the auction ends. Some snipers will start probing the auction in that window than at the last second put up their real bid in the hope that the other bidders really did not max out there bids. Basically you are trying not to show your hand (your max bid) until the last second that helps reduce getting out bid for an item.

It should be noted that this stuff really only applies to highly desirable items like some rare or expensive keyboards. On those Items you really want sniping the item is really the only way to get it if there is allot of interest in it because as soon as you place your highest bid and it overwhelms everyone else's bid you don't want them to have a chance to counter bid your highest offer. So the snipe is a bid that will overcome the current high bid but leave no time for a counter bid. But seeing that everyone who gets stuff on Ebay knows this those last minute bids should really be as high as you are willing to go.

You defiantly have a point there. That is why I just bid at the last minute that way I don't have a chance to go higher and blow money I don't have.

but you dont show your hand... its a blind bid...

i understand the strategy of leaving it unnoticed, but at the same time, a lot of people look for things close to ending with 0 bids, and others scared away by that ominous 1 BID (esp if they bid $1 over it and get autooutbid)

im saying i think ebay is overanalyzed.  i believe that if your first bid is your only bid and the max you are willing to pay, the outcome would be the same.

if you do a minimum bid and no one else bids, you get it for that
if you do a high bid and no one else bids, you get it for the minimum
if you do a high bid and someone else bids, they get shut down unless they were willing to pay more than you in the first place

im not a huge ebay fanatic, but just think that there's a lot less to this game than people think

this is my keyboard.  i didnt want to admit because i didnt think i would get much for it.  but at 150$ with 2 days left, i am satisfied.  i actually lost of money from trying this keyboard out TWICE haha, but whatever.  im sticking with buckling springs and rubber domes for awhile.  i thought i liked the realforce, but i just cant get use to the feel of the keys. its just doesnt feel right to my fingers.

That is the main reason I want one of those 55g boards. I think the way Topre had to change the wall thickness to achieve the higher force would change the way it feels. So the question is did it change the feel for the worse or did it make it better.

Nothing wrong with sticking with the BS boards they are great boards. But man I would have to throw most rubber domes out the window. Hope you are at least going to use decent ones.

EDIT: To rub it in I would have traded you a couple of BS boards for it... (space saver and M13) Don't really use them and thinking of selling them anyways.

The outcome isn't the same for one simple reason. Some people don't use proxy bidding. Either they don't know about it, they don't understand it, or they think they are being really clever by not using it. (They aren't clever at all.)

Instead, they keep outbidding the current price manually by small amounts until they beat all bids or decide the price is too high. This works against them in two situations.

If they bid early, then even if they reach the highest bid, they leave themselves exposed to a higher bid. And because of the way they bumped up the price bit by bit, any bid will beat them.

If they bid at the end of the auction, they have no idea how high they have to go to win. They keep placing bid after bid in a race to top the proxy bids. It might take 10 bids or more to win, and they may run out of time.

There is a technical term for people like this: "the losers." And snipers love them. They keep prices low.

I know, and I think everyone is susceptible to it a bit... I just got outbid on a yet different Model M auction (which I still can't believe I'm buying one, nonetheless worried about not getting one).

Just like for a minute I thought I had a chance at a Space Saver.

Just saying that if you really, truly put in the most you are willing to pay (reasonably close to the end of the auction, MAYBE) then you don't have much to worry about.

Well I guess you are lucky then that I'm not bidding on this. If I was it would go for over $200 and I'll be surprised if it doesn't even with out me bidding.

But right now I don't have the cash which makes for a lucky day for you.

For what it is worth you can still get these new out of Korea but they are going for $330 before shipping so more like $400 to get one. So anything under $300 is a good price considering how little this board has been used.
