Question about GMK caps lock symbol
« on: Mon, 22 June 2015, 22:39:15 »
None of the GMK group buys I have seen in the last few months (Hyperfuse, TA, Miami Nights, Olivetti, Red Alert, Classic Beige, Electric Bluegaloo) have bothered including the padlock symbol caps lock.

Many of these group buys have included a R3 Control key though, suggesting that the lack of inclusion does not have to do with trying to keep the number of keys low. This makes me wonder why the 'pad lock caps lock' is so often excluded?

Is it to do with having consistent icons or text for the modifier keys?

I personally really like the look the padlock key and wish it was included more.

I used it on my Dolch round and on the purple mods I did prior to that too. I didn't use it on Miami Nights since I went with pure text instead. Variety is the best. Next time I might use the German style upside down shift arrow.

It's often left out because most people prefer a standard text caps lock, also looks more like OG cherry sets

Is there anyone here that downright doesn't like the padlock?

Looks like a hand bag, but I don't mind it.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Yeah... I think people are used to ANSI, are used to the text line... and it seems people like to stick with having what they have always seen the most. People are so boring like that. To me, legends are more like decoration so I prefer to have whatever appears to be the most visually interesting. I don't even really care often if it aligns with the function of the key at all.

I'm not particularly a fan. I prefer text legends in most cases, with exceptions for shift and super. Fn/menu I'm ambivalent about.

The downward arrow might be better than the padlock, it seems a lot cleaner IMO.
