Member since March
« on: Fri, 14 August 2015, 15:23:23 »
So as the title says I've been a member since March and probably like most of you I've already sank tons of money in to this oddly pricey hobby. I've been wanting to learn to solder to work on a couple pie related projects for a while that I've also yet to kick off  :-X. So I've used building a few keyboards as a solution to that. Please stop taking advantage of my wallet. The wallethack is too real. ;)

Welcome to Geekhack!

Which keyboards have you built?

Also I've just realised that a lot of new members find where to setup a signature and put their current keyboards there, as you have.  And there's me asking everyone what keyboards they have :))  I have signatures turned off btw.  TIL.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Over the weekend I just built my first one being a Planck with PCB, soldering went pretty smooth, I believe I need to redo one switch but am not positive as I'm not sure what that particular switch does anyways. Need to find the default layout. I've got most of the parts to start building up a Phantom next and another 60% down the line for my lady.

Starting off small - that's good, because the raw materials wouldn't have looked quite as daunting then!  I can only imagine sitting down in front of a full size plate and 104 switches
