Flat keycaps for Topre ?
« on: Tue, 13 October 2015, 07:53:23 »
Hi everyone  ^-^

First time posting but long time lurking, enough to convince me to get my hands on a realforce
88ub. I’m really happy about it, but the only thing is I’d like to use it to play Starcraft 2, and I can’t, because of the profile of the keycaps. Indeed I’m using « the core » hotkey layout to play, and it requires to tilt the board (pic included) ; the thing is that with this tilt, the ergonomic profile of the right shift key prevents me to press both shift + ctrl with my thumb, because the bottom of the shift key is to high and hurt my finger.

So my question is : is there anyone who knows where I could find a « flat » shift keycap for Topre ? I saw that elite keyboards sells Topre modifiers, but the profile looks the same ; I’ve took a look toward artisans as well, but I didn’t find any shift keycap. I even considered buying the EK modifiers, and « mod » them myself to flatten the bottom.

As you can see I’m kinda struggling with english so I hope I made myself clear, and thanks in advance to everyone who could help me  :D :D

It is possible to get mx keycap compatible topre stems then you could use any mx keycap.

there is no flat key but you could maybe try flipping the key around if it really hurts? i'll avoid making fun of your thumb sensitivity :P

You could try flip the keycap around, so the lower edges are closest to each other. (or is this not possible with the Realforce, I'm not a Topre expert)
Buying more keycaps,
it really hacks my wallet,
but I must have them.

Thanks a lot for the quick answers !!

About the mx to topre stems, I think there is at the moment no way not involving a complex / expensive 3D printing right :/ ?

So I tried to flip my keycap (brillant idea !) and it works way better, thanks again, even if I still feel that damn edge a bit on the top of my thumb..

Anyway thanks a lot, I think I'll try to perform some surgery on that EK lavender - or orange ??????- modifiers  ^-^  ^-^

BunnyLake from [CTRL]ALT has paired with JT Keycaps to produce some that are, AFAIK, not 3D printed, but properly molded.

These are not directly available at the moment, but the first batch is on the way.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

And there's also the CMStorm Novatouch, Royal Kludge RC930 and Noppoo 108EC-Pro which all have MX compatible sliders that fit Topre boards.
