IBM Typewriters for $5?
« on: Sun, 08 November 2015, 16:54:23 »

They're in Jackson, TN.

A guy has 25 of these and doesn't know the conditions of each of them, but at this price you could get a few  and make one that works for you and sell the rest for parts:

I have a working Selectric but I would love to upgrade to a better specimen in condition, model, and color one of these days.

Too bad these beasts are ridiculously heavy and hard to really know the condition.

I believe that it was in this forum where somebody had a really nice guide on how to clean and rehab these.

It might have even been Ripster before he lost his ****, it was the kind of thing he was good at, once upon a time.
"However, my view has changed in recent days. Trump’s behavior is so bizarre, so unhinged, and so counter to his short-term interests that the most likely explanation for his actions is that Trump either believes or knows that he is mentioned in the Epstein files in ways that are even more damaging than the blowback he is getting for not releasing the files."

I was curious how often typewriters come up for sale and it's surprisingly more often than mech keyboards.  But the prices are usually still up there for mech keyboards--until this posting.

The selectrics in good condition go for as much as a mech keyboard, which was very surprising to me.  Apparently either people are pricing them too high, or the demand is still there for typewriters.

It's both demand and supply, typewriters are more ubiquitous than mechs. I guess for $5 it's worth the risk if you're nearby, I got lucky with my $20 Selectric I at a Goodwill that runs like a champ.
