Hi, new to mechanical keyboard
« on: Thu, 24 December 2015, 11:12:22 »
Hi Forum,

New member and new mechanical keyboard user from Malaysia.

Don't really care much about mechanical keyboards before until I found me some IBM Model M and a WYSE Black Cherry MX (Terminal) keyboard in one of soon to be decommissioned Data Center I work in. Cut story short, I was hooked. And further reading brought me to the poisonous realm of custom keyboard (such a sucker for custom DIY stuffs). Since every search on google brought me here, I figured I register and start learning and join the discussion.

Already bought me a teensy board for the WYSE keyboard. Waiting for it to arrive is the pain now.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays  :D

YES!

First i thought I was going to cut the plate and remove the numpads. But since it's my first keyboard project, with fear of failure i decided to play it safe and preserve the keyboard form factor. Let's try the minor mod first :D

I seriously had to google that. still learning all these jargon and short forms. I am seriously thinking about shrinking the keyboard size. Will read more about this HHKB.

Welcome to Geekhack!

There is a recommended reading thread.  One of the links therein is the glossary - highly recommended.

I wish I worked in a data centre throwing out keyboards like that :))
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
