The primary force behind that quality decline principle is the fact that there are many people who don't really wish to have something of as high quality. In order to reduce costs, many companies changed their ways of producing keyboards and mice so their computers would appeal to a wider audience. The people who still wanted high-quality products just went to companies specializing in them, like what many people here do today.
