« on: Sun, 31 January 2016, 12:58:45 »

Please share your ideas in this form. Thanks.

Please fill out the Google form and discuss stuff here. This is seperate from the Winkeyless and HHKB plates I am planning.

PCBs by GON

Orange & black PCBs available.

Plates  by me and JD

60% is still the theme because of the demand!

Plates are available in different colours.

I haven't even built my stuff from last buy. But part of me feels like I should order something here anyways....

I'll have to think about what I want.

Edit: obviously, the above being in the case this happens. Filled out the form regardless.

Thanks for all the answers!

I was thinking about doing a custom orange/purple PCB for the Geekhack theme, but then i would need a PCB in a neutral colour too, which is difficult because of the high MOQ that is set.(We need to order more than the last GB).

Wait when you say Winkeyless. Are you talking about a winkeyless 60%? One of my dream boards is a Winkeyless 60% with a short right shift...

What's the MOQ?

100 PCBs for a new colour preferably. I can do it by paying a fee and stuff, but i don't want to delay anything because of the colour. Also, i need colours that anyone would buy.

Ok someone is putting 40 USD in as a good price, that's a really  great price and won't happen. Also the 80 USD option shouldn't be there. That is above retail, sorry for that.

Aiming for around 60-65. Retail is 70 + shipping + inspection fees.

Stabilisers will be available.

Definitely in for another gon pcb or two!

Not a huge fan of the orange & black color combo, but any custom color scheme would be pretty hard to resist tbh!

Would Love to see something like White on Gray, or maybe Purple on Gray!

Purple goes with anything as well if you have some Zealios to go along! :D

On another note, are hhkb style plates still planned?

Acrylic or polycarb hhkb style plates would be really epic to show of dat custom pcb, and make use of the top smd led spots!

I'm just a little worried on how long it would take to get fulfilled. I've only heard about how long he takes to fulfill the regular orders. Even if it takes a while I want one!

Can pcb color and color of prints both be custom?

Would a Gray pcb with purple printing even be possible in theory?

Have never seen a gray pcb before, but imagine it to look really sweet.

It's a nice neutral inbeteen as well, since black usually looks way to dark to me personally...

Not going to lie, GON sounds incredibly busy to the point that I am curious at what the actual lead time for this would be.

Most likely no case. It would have been a new designed layered case.

Okay updates.

Orange PCB with 50 MOQ

Black PCB with 50 MOQ.

Will have a custom LeandreN silkscreen, because why not?

GON has promised me several times that the orders will go fast, because they don't require his assembly. Some more questions will be asked.

So we will have one neutral black colour for those that are not interested in flashy colours, and we will have the signature orange PCB.

Looks like the price is going to be around 60$ now.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Why does it have to be a boring standard black? =/

Not a big fan of orange either, so if it stays like this my wallet is safe.

Honestly think a gray pcb would create more interest then black because it's like the best of both worlds. (would be all over gray pcbs)

Hi!

Normally PCBs only give you one choice, like in my round 3 GB with white Winkeyless PCBs. I thought I was safe with two colours. One boring plain PCB and one cool orange PCB. In the end, you doesn't even see the PCB. A grey PCB would require another custom colour fee.

Sorry, I can't please everyone, glad that your wallet is safe :P

I know gon's pcbs usually come in black or white.

After all I currently have a white nerd 60 pcb and crystal case here to build, in which btw you actually would see the pcb.

(Also planning on getting some acrylic hhkb plates cut which would also show parts of it at least on a standard case)

I still think gray would have sparked more interest, but I didn't consider custom color fees.
Will the additional cost be split on both colors or will black be cheaper then orange?
If so what happens when black doesn't reach moq?

I understand that you can't please anyone tho! And even tho I really wished for an epic custom gon, its also kind of nice to save on funds for once.

A GON-based GB would be very nice, albeit not to convenient for me in the near future for personal reasons; but in later rounds, I'd love to see a GON-based 60% GB repeated, if the IC is successful.

I also added to the form, my interest in seeing lubricant added as an optional part of the potential GB, as it's difficult to get a hold of any suitable lubricant in the UK, with ease, let alone the most preferable options.

Will the silkscreen be in the place of the NerD logo, or will it be plastered huge like the CTRL ALT PCBs? I never quite understood having someone else's name/logo on your board and the biggest reason to have a special colored PCB is to make it visible in some way (mine will be going in a Gon Crystal case).

If you're accepting feedback, I'd scrap the personal logo or keep it small.

Can't recommend this GB enough.
Was lucky enough to be part of his round 3 version and Leandre is super duper friendly and responsive.
GB went smoothly and efficiently.
He accidentally missed a stabiliser wire in my order and promptly sent me another without any shipping cost.

I don't think thats possible unfortunately skaloola. RGB leds require a controller, additional leads and compatible firmware.

Gon's pcbs have other advantages tho like the possibility to use smd leds on top of the pcb,  an additional bluetooth module, and the overall top notch quality of gon's parts!

Hi, the sample PCB arrived today.
GON sent some stickers. I think he wants me to have this as an option, as he wants to sell those.

Thickness is good. Looks like it's 1,5cm.

Well soldered controller parts.

Solid sockets and well mounted diodes.

Great PCB, I will do some firmware testing and case fitting.

FYI, those cases may not work without some modification. The under glow parts on GON and WKL PCBs often make them incompatible with some cases (in general, anything with ridges seems to not work, from what I've heard)

Yeah, he might have to break them off and sand them down if he wants the underglow.
I thought my case was not compatible with the pcb as the picture of the usb port shown was on the right side.
Then I realised the picture was actually the underside of the pcb.  :))

Thank you for your informative answer.

The cheap Aliexpress case shown above is compatible with gon/winkeyless pcb. U wont need any dremelling with that case as I also built mine with that case. I'll post the pic later as I'm on my phone atm. Regardless, u should be good to go with that case. But no idea with the alu case from pexon.

FYI, those cases may not work without some modification. The under glow parts on GON and WKL PCBs often make them incompatible with some cases (in general, anything with ridges seems to not work, from what I've heard)

Yeah, he might have to break them off and sand them down if he wants the underglow.

I think the other person meant if he wants to have smd leds at the bottom of the pcb he would need to modify the case as the ridges are blocking the empty spaces.
The alu case from pexon is identical to the plastic case. Only difference is the material iinm.

Yes, i'll go with smd leds, but finally I prefer to put more $$ in a frosted acrylic case like Tex CNC or Dulphin's (if he still have some)

Do you need a plate with these pcbs or can you just mount directly on the pcb and put it and a case and go ? Also does this pcb only accept cherry switches ?

No but a plate would increase stability and give you a better overall feel.

Cherry and Cherry clones. ALPS switches have a different pins position.

You will need to source your own cases. This is running the traditional PCB, stabilisers and plates style. I like to keep GBs as fast and simple as possible.

There's a group buy for HHKB plates, also run by LeandreN.

Does GON sell just plates?
PCBs and accessories too.

You can combine GON PCB and HHKB-like plate (more info here) to achieve your goal.

White on the black PCB and black on the orange PCB.

Is the logo confirmed to be silk screened to the pcb?
Too cute!  ^______^
I'm down for a white on black pcb!

Will this PCB fit in a TEX Aluminum?

Obviously, I don't plan on using the bottom mounted LED's.

The render posted by Leandren seems to show that the holes for screw would match the poker ones.
So assuming the TEX case uses the standard poker layout screws, it should be fine.

It uses the Poker screw hole layout but I was more worried about things like the ridges on the case getting in the way of things like the controller.

I have no problem using a dremel on my acrylic TEX but I would rather leave my Aluminum TEX pretty if possible. (Inside and out  :)))

GON's Side LEDs and extra electronics won't let the PCB be an immediate fit into a Tex Aluminum case. You'll want to use the acrylic and modify it. The screw holes fit as asked though.

Is there any other type of aluminium case that is rather simple to acquire that you know would fit ?

Find any case without ridges, really. The MassDrop cast aluminum cases work, or the cases on Amazon right now also work (I think they're called iQunix Lambo cases).

I've put a Gon PCB in a TEX Aluminum case no problem. Granted I didn't use any bottom SMD LEDs, but I don't know why you would want to.

Yeah, what he said. As long as there is not smd leds at the bottom, it should fit the alu case just fine :D

I've seen some Korean boards like this, but wanted to see if other places had it too.

Yah I saw that too. Looks beautiful and form is just what I wanted. I'm just looking into whether or not I can make a custom case for it and add some LED for the switches and for some underglow (rgb underglow).

Would the RGB LEDs from Winkeyless work on the bottom of the board? If so, what would I need? Resistors come pre-soldered, right?

Yeah, they're standard 1206 SMD LEDs. You can get them on eBay for pretty cheap.

Hello, I'm sorry that I don't know anything. All I want to do is buy parts to build a hhkb layout board and want to be able to put LEDs through the switches and in to the pcb.
(short right shift, 2x1u instead of the standard 2u backspace on top row, bottom row: 1u/1.5u/7u/1.5u/1u, and stepped caps would be nice.)
So I guess I need a pcb, plate, and stabilizers. Am I in the right place?

Will you handle merging the orders? I wanna add things from this IC to the HHKB plate I ordered.

No ETA yet. Need the samples and then shortly after, the GB will start.

I will probably delete orders and send a message to everyone to refill the form. I know this is very inconvenient, but it is way easier for me.

Hi, I am new to custom keyboard.
I checked the GON website, it offers Nerdy GUI to customize the keyboard layout but it is only available on windows.
Is there a similar software to edit keyboard layout in mac osx?
I don't really mind if it does not have the friendly interface, but getting a windows computer to edit the layout is too much for me  :D.

The software is Windows only. I checked this up for someone a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunate for for people who use OSX exclusively.

OR even two of both... In that case one of the plates would be Red.

Of course. ISO is the only layout!

I'm nice to include ANSI support.

haha Great  ;) then I'm definitely in !

It will work only if you're not soldering the smd leds but other than that, should be fine.
