Stupid people modding their hhkb please leave your hhkb virgin please!

I really like light switches, as I'm a light typer, so I assume the 45g will be more than enough for me.  She'll stay a maiden, don't you worry.  If I want 55g, I may go for a Realforce (God, what has my life become?)

Are HHKB only available in 45g?  I've heard of HHKBs having 55g switches, but I imagine those are modded in?

yup, but its very easy to do. I have a guide here:

warning: the 55g realforce is a 'heavy' switch and it feels more than the 55g advertised, as far as I could tell. This is due to the resistance being all the way at the outset of the keypress. I will say that the tactility is great, but you would need to avoid long typing sessions as you will develop fatigue. I myself have tried it and was a bit surprised at the actuation force. If you do decide to purchase one, try to get your hands on one beforehand and get a feel for the weighting. You mentioned you're a 'light' typist.

Haha. Is that from a bad b-movie? You welcomed me with it once on my first thread on the forum.  I dig it.

Oh sorry! it's what I usually put for recent topre/HHKB converts. Didn't know I'd already referenced you with it. Hehehe. Not sure how I found it or from what movie. Definitely 80's stuff like Critters.

Ummmm, it's obviously from the fantastic movie Ghoulies!

So true, I don't think I've even seen a HHKB go for less than $150.

As much as I like my 55g RF, I would imagine that someone who is used to more modern mechs and says they are a light typist would find the keys a bit heavy.  I grew up as a heavy typist and used either buckling springs or rubber domes, which all require more pressure than most mainstream mech switches, so personally I like the added stiffness since it is more similar to what im used to.  As far as feels go, it feels stiffer than my Unicomp which is rated at 65g iirc.

I can only speak for myself but my Unicomp definitely has a heavier keypress than the 55g domes in my Type Heaven.

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeee
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
