My Ergodox Set is shipping! :)

Same here as well. Extremely psyched to pair this with Skeletor/Hyperfuse alphas.

Can't wait for the pictures :)

I keep hearing that recent months have been big for GMK sets. Unfortunately for me, I just discovered this hobby a month or so ago and had no idea what to buy; I've been educating myself and recently completed my first build on a Orange Tric. This GMK Carbon would have been sweet! I sure hope it comes around again.

You may be able to score a set from people wanting to sell them soon.  They're about to ship.

Invested some time into putting together a "essentials" ISO-International kit, trying my best to visualize how well eight different ISO locales are covered.

As a result, we can get pretty damn good coverage of DE, UK, NO, SE and DK with just 35 additional keys. It's possible to reduce this further to just ~30 keys if required by dropping the Q@, E, M, '?, 4 keys.

Already submitted iso kit as following:

Though i dont think the 4 or 5 keys will be the deal breaker. Its actually very good for usage in a professional environment. The biggest thing is just to break the moq and after that its just peanuts.

The kits will be available during GMK Carbon shipping. Say current or next week.

Carbon can hit MOQ with a fat NORDE kit ... no doubt :)

I was hoping to build something that designers of keycap sets can include in their GMK base kit for <25$ markup and open their set to many international layouts.

Any plan on having the main kit up for grabs as well, or if some vendor is getting a large enough order so that the 150 people getting this norde set could possibly get the main set as well somehow? Finding base sets for 150 norde kits from the aftermarket at a reasonable price worries me.

Yeah i get it. You need some pricing quotes from GMK in this regard. I think there are always hidden costs. However such ISO kit and under 25 bucks is ofcourse very helpfull for designers.

Re-launching a set at exactly the launch time is actually pretty logical ;)

Since when the set launches, everyone is like, "noooooo I missed it", or like, "where can I buy this, I'm new to this community"

Unfortunately this is not going to happen. Maybe MD will have some Base Sets for Bazaar but i do not think so. In any case you dont have to worry about pricings. Because mechmarket will be flooded with GMK Carbon first week. But with time the price will rise. So the rule is just the sooner the cheaper.

Keep in mind there are many flippers. Its not going to be rare. Also Base set was sold 1956 times.

This still blows me away. I always knew this set would be popular, it's an amazing combination.

But nearly two thousand base sets for GMK? Completely freaking nuts.

shouldn't the the last < > key in R4 have a | pipe instead of a \ backslash? Or is that a different key that is missing?

Let me apologize first if this should go to a new thread as I can't really figure out where it belongs.

I computed, using my own keycaps database, the 78 keycaps to be added to the US ANSI alphanumeric kit to cover the following additional languages: DE, UK, SE, NO, DK, IT, ES, PT and came up with the following differences with wodan's graphical representation (posted above), and came up with the following differences:

(1) R1 3 # es(E03) instead of R1 3 # es(E03). cf. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QWERTY#Spanish: "some characters required only for typing Catalan and Occitan ... the interpunct (punt volat/punt interior, used in ll, nh, sh; located at Shift-3". Also note that tere is no latin keyboard that comes with R1 3 #.

(2) R2 E es(D03) instead of R2 E es(D03). cf. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QWERTY#Spanish : "On most keyboards, is marked as Alt Gr + E and not Alt Gr + 5 as shown in the image. However, in some keyboards, is found marked twice".  This suggests that R1 5 % se(E05),it(E05),es(E05) could be dispensed with, as R2 E se(D03),it(D03),es(D03) are also present.

May I add my own remark about building a minimal international ISO kit: I would not go for a set of keycaps that does not contain all glyphs needed both for typing in a given language and for arithmetics and coding in the commonly used computing idioms.

That is, I require at least, on the one hand, all upper (or lower) case letters without diacritics, diacritics (dead keys), if any, when all of their occurences in the given languages are not provided by single letter+diacritic glyghs, and punctuation marks; on the other hand all digits, arithmetic operators, and additional glyphs require for coding.

The latter amounts to the following 30 non-alphabetic glyphs (sorted by ASCII codes):

! " # $ % ( ) [ ] & ' * + , - / ; < = > ? @ \ ^ _ ` { | } ~

where | may well be displayed as on a keycap.

When computed following the above rules, and using only keycaps already defined in standard national layouts, I came up with a set of 43 additional keycaps needed to cover UK, DE, SE, NO and DK. Then, with the aim is to provide a set of keycaps suitable for typing in the above five languages, SE/NO/DK can be covered using the SE layout (which is actually is a SE/FI layout), since this is the closest nordic layout to the DE layout and the one usually provided by major manufacturers (Realforce, Filco, Poker), plus the two additional alphabetic keycaps (R3 and R3 ) in both the DK and the NO layout. The total number of keycaps is thus brought down to the following 36 keycaps:

R1    de(E00)
R1 2 " de(E02), R1 2 "   uk(E02) being a possible alternative
R1 3 de(E03), R1 3 # se(E03),no(E03),dk(E03) being a possible alternative
R1 6 &   de(E06),se(E06)
R1 7 / { de(E07),se(E07)
R1 8 ( [ de(E08),se(E08)
R1 9 ) ] de(E09),se(E09)
R1 0 = } de(E10),se(E10)
R1 ? \ de(E11)
R1 `   de(E12),se(E12)
R2   Q @ de(D01)
R2   Z   de(D06)
R2      de(D11)
R2 + * ~ de(D12)
R3      de(C10),se(C10)
R3      de(C11),se(C11)
R3 # '   de(C12)
R4 < > | de(B00),se(B00)
R4   Y   de(B01)
R4 , ;   de(B08),se(B08)
R4 . :   de(B09),se(B09)
R4 - _   de(B10),se(B10)
R1 ` uk(E00)
R1 3    uk(E03)
R3 ' @   uk(C11)
R3 # ~   uk(C12)
R4 \ |   uk(B00)
R1    se(E00)
R1 2 " @ se(E02)
R1 4 $ se(E04)
R1 + ? \ se(E11)
R2      se(D11)
R2 ~ se(D12)
R3 ' *   se(C12)
R3      no(C10),dk(C11)
R3      no(C11),dk(C10)

Which differs from wodan's 35 keycaps proposal by adding R1 ^ , R1 , and R1 ` , plus having R1 2 " (for full DE coverage and consistency with the next keycap) instead of 2 " (which is thus missing from my UK kit), R1 3 instead of R1 3 (which does not exist in any latin keyboard that I know of), E (standard ANSI) instead of E (assuming everyone well knows is AltGR+E anyway), and R2 M (standard ANSI) instead of M .

I hope some future day a designer would also add the following 7 keycaps, to provide for easier typing in spanish, portuguese and french by switching a few keycaps and using custom layouts (ca stands for the French Canadian layout):

R3    es(C10)
R3    pt(C10), to be also used as es(C12), which the standard defines as R3    }
R2    ca(D12)
R3    ca(C11)
R3    ca(C12)
R4    ca(B00)
R4    ca(B10)

Hope this opens way to further discussion. Meanwhile, I guess non-British/German/Nordic users will have to stick to either ANSI US-International or ISO custom layouts (I plan to build mine on the UK layout based on keyboards+keycaps availability+costs consideration).

Re-launching a set at exactly the launch time is actually pretty logical ;)

Since when the set launches, everyone is like, "noooooo I missed it", or like, "where can I buy this, I'm new to this community"

I get your drift! As a newcomer to this community it can be hard to scroll endless pages, follow up on post on varies GB sites. where drops only last a couple of weeks or so, making money at the same time to pay for it all :) But After doing so and learning fast i sincerely have great respect for all the good people that are making all these awesome sets to see the light on the keyboard!! We are out there supporting!! Long live ISO, NORDIC

I will not start any other projects as long as i am not done with Yuri. Yuri Round 1 will be latin only, since i dont know if GMK is willing to upgrade their tooling for trippleshot. Even if they do, the upgrade itself will take around 12 months to complete. I hope Yuri drops in the beginning of 2017. Keep in mind, i do have no knowledge about MD's schedule plans.

After Yuri i'll start working on Carbon SA R2.

I'm guessing running a separate kit for Cyrillic only will be practically impossible through GMK correct? I'm in for latin of course but I'd love a Cyrillic alphas alternative kit, maybe if you do Yuri in SA for round 2 that could happen.  ^-^

Why didn't you get the base kit when it dropped few months ago? I think the ISO kit is mainly aimed at existing GMK Carbon users.

In any case, keep and eye on mechmarket if you're really keen on getting a set, maybe set up an IFTTT script to notify you whenever a post with Carbon goes up on mechmarket?3

I'm pretty sure he meant that he still has to wait for his base kit.
The novelties and ergodox kits shipped out earlier (probably because it was faster/easier to sort), and I didn't hear of anyone getting tracking for his base kit yet.

i kick myself for not deciding in time to buy the novelties. the drop ended while I was paying with paypal  :(

The speed is at extremes tho, I don't recall a turnaround this fast

Massdrop usually allows changes to an order, if they've not paid the supplier yet.
You'll kick yourself when you'll see the 35% import fee. Source? I live in Italy.

Poste italiane handles the customs clearance and, in my experience, their fee is 5,16 + VAT.

Hello T0mb3ry , I want to take this opportunity to compliment you.
I had never considered buying a keycap set, moreover seemed too expensive. But then I came across your GMK Carbon and it was love at first sight.

I just wanted to ask you something. Why do you have not merged all the different keycap set (basekit, novelty, ergo) in one drop like MD did in goodspeed?

Because of high moq we wanted to make each kit independent from each other. Didn't expected novelties even to tip. It was more strategic decision.
