Hey there! Welcome to Geekhack!

What sort of keycaps and/or keyboards were you looking for? You'll find lots of great suggestions for both from tons of members. It'll be hard to pick just one.  :))

Hi! I am looking for some cool artisan keycaps and a 40% keyboard, or a 60%. I will soon need one because I am going to be traveling a bit and I don't want to use my laptops membrane keyboard lol

Sounds good! For artisan keycaps check out the Artisan Services subforum. Tonight at 9:00PM CST there will be a sale for Bingecaps on Techkeys. Any new sales for other artisans will also be announced on that subforum.

As for 40% or 60%, do you have any preference for one over the other? I may be able to toss a suggestion or two.

Awesome, I'll be checking out that subforum, Bingecaps and Techkeys!

I don't really have a preference for either, but I would like a row with numbers.

[Edit] The Bingecap keys look amazing! Can I buy them from Techkeys? Or somewhere else?

Ah, then you'll want to go for a 60% keyboard. 40% boards are missing the number row.

Hmm, the only 60% keyboard I've tried is the HHKB. I like it quite a bit, and it's one of the most well-liked Topre keyboards on here.

If you're going MX I would look at the Pok3r or V60 for starters. They're not the best keyboards around, but it's a good place to start. If you find yourself liking the layout, you could make your way up to the custom keyboards and assemble one yourself.

I'll check out the HHKB, but right now I'm going to bed (it's 1:30 am here).

I have seen the V60 and the Pok3rand they seem pretty good. Building my own keyboard would be awesome! I would really love to do it some day, haha.

Alright, goodnight.

Oh my God, some of these keycaps are amazing! Some of the keycaps that stand out to me are most of the Brocaps, they look really good especially the Nightstalker, but they're so much! Same as GirlDC, they have some really nice caps, but I don't really want to fork out $50 for a keycap, and may I mention that I am Australian so the price will go up much more, as well as shipping. Some more keycaps that stand out to me are the Hunger Work Studio keycaps, but I'm not sure where to buy them from (if I wanted to), because if I recall correctly they switched from Bingecaps to Hunger Work Studio? And just a few more that I like are these. Especially the Pink on Blacks and Pink on Black Alphas, even though they're pretty much the same thing.

I have to say, thank you a lot for this link! I have been amazed and now I am more intrigued to keyboards and keycaps!

Haha, techkeys.us has a few more if you're interested. I'm not sure how Bro Caps, and Click Clack caps ship but a lot of people seem to order when the keycaps are on sale. People from all over.  :thumb:

Hey, I have checked out Techkeys,  they do have a lot of caps and accessories that I want, I'm pretty sure you can buy Brocaps from ctrlalt.io and after some Googling I think you buy Click Clack caps from elitekeyboards.com
I am not sure, so please correct me if I am wrong :)

Welcome to Geekhack!

HHKB or Pok3r would be excellent choices, both extremely popular keyboards.

Buying artisans, and even most keyboards and keycap sets, from OS you get used to our sucky exchange rate and increased shipping charges, it all comes with the territory.  If funds are scarce, the thing to do is only buy the ones you really want, instead of every set you think you like the look of.

Most artisan keycaps are also generally available in (relatively small) batches, there are very, very few that are just "in stock" on a web site.  It's been a while since ClickClack had any of his on EliteKeyboards, and even then it was a drawing (with, probably, thousands of entrants for, maybe, dozens of keycaps).  No-one ever really knows the numbers, and that is part of the artisan scene.

Your best bet is to stalk the various artisan sub-fora, and checkout the respective rules when a new sale is announced.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
