Pink switch from Packard bell keyboard ?
« on: Sun, 03 April 2016, 03:58:16 »
I was just searching on ebay for cheap donor alps board for a project i want to do soon and came across this, i haven't seen it before and was just curious if anyone knew what kind of switch this is.

From original listing :

"The switches are non-tactile linears with a very unusual force curve, spiking up rapidly at the bottom.  There is some Click to this keyboard but I wouldn't describe the switches as "Clicky"; the noise comes on release, not actuation."

It has many advantages; inherent NKRO, 100 million operations lifetime, potentially very smooth contactless keyfeel, etc., and I've found it to be much better than the Key Tronic version. Still foam and foil isn't necessarily my thing. Check out my BTC video if you're interested :) .

very reliable, smooth, NKRO, but have a literal spongey feel because of the foam. They're basically a cheap way to make a capacative switch.

I devised a mod using Mitsumi sleeves that make these into very snappy, highly tactile switches btw. A bit if a dabble of course, but I've found it to be quite effective for when gaming.

could you elaborate on this mod please? I purchased a packard bell keyboard rather zealously thinking it would have alps switches only to be disappointed, and I'm trying to find a use for this spongey keyboard. mitsumi sleeves as in from mitsumi spring over membrane switches? as found in the commodore?

From KPQ type. Just stick it in in place of the BTC's own sleeves or springs. Use them pointy side up.
