I Plasti-Dipped my Filco's aluminum Vortex case
« on: Mon, 04 April 2016, 08:25:44 »

All in all, I'm pretty happy with the result. The color works great, but there are a few imperfections that I'll need to address. It got really cold and windy yesterday afternoon, and I think that affected the final finish of the paint. I may remove part and redo, but for a first attempt, I'm super happy.

It changed the timbre of the keys a bit, too. It's a little more "clunk" than "clack" now (Cherry Browns).

Anyway, if you're considering dipping something, just go for it. I'd never tried Plasti-Dip before (though I've painted a million things and am pretty handy, generally), but it's really pretty easy stuff to work with, and is far more forgiving than a typical rattle-can product.

Plastidipping isn't as permanent as hydrodipping. Plastidipping can be easily removed (unlike hydrodipping) but it's not as durable for that same reason

Yeah, it's not really a case of better or worse. Plasti-Dipping allows you to change your mind a bunch of times, which is cool. It's super easy to remove from metal, so peeling it off and changing the color or just touching it up is a piece of cake.
