Ducky YOTG
« on: Sat, 30 April 2016, 02:43:57 »
Recently i was offered a ducky YOTG edition that was really clean and i believe barely used for around 160 USD. I was wondering it was worth the pick up or was the YOTG basically just another ducky shine which retails for 160 USD brand new. Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks!

The Ducky One RGB YOTG has not the same case as Shine 4/5 RGB, the YOTG (Ducky One) case looks better to me, as I don't like the cases on Shine 4/5 RGB.

The Ducky One RGB YOTG (2015 ex I think was made) was only made in white case and Cherry MX Black, Red and Brown. I own a Cherry MX Black.

Here in Sweden you could only buy the YOTG ISO/Nordic k-boards with Cherry MX Red and Brown but all ISO/Nordic YOTG k-boards are sold out here in Sweden and it is a hell to find good lookin ISO/Nordic keycaps sets. That's why I bought a ANSI YOTG k-board. The k-board has a Micro USB port and a standard bottom row, like Ducky Shine 2/3/4/5 RGB has.

My Ducky One RGB YOTG.

My Ducky One RGB YOTG with a Jukebox SA keycaps set, the 2 orange Pumpkin caps don't belong to the Jukebox SA set.

It's more like a Ducky One with YOTG branding and RGB lighting than a Ducky Shine 5.  The price sounds about right to me, it was $169 new.  It's rare so that increases the price slightly over retail (although from what I can tell, the demand is not too high for this keyboard so it doesn't increase it much over retail), but it's also used so that offsets the premium for being rare.  I would say $160 sounds about right and is a very fair price.

I would say the main difference between a DS5 and YOTG would be the case. Thin bezel vs thick bezel, depends on you, but personally i think it's worth the price and it is quite rare :)

YOTG is just a white shine 5 with the One housing and the One specific features slightly changed (full RGB keyboard status indicators above the number keypad, which use the Calc, Vol Mute, Vol down, Vol up RGB colors, or if the Calc+Vol keys RGB are set to off, the FN+F9 main keyboard colors), and the Mouse emulation lock numpad feature.

If you really want a YOTG like keyboard, get the white case TKL Ducky One RGB when it comes out, but if you got a deal on an existing one for $160, that's about the price of a Shine 5 anyway.  And the YOTG is a nicer keyboard than the shine 5 (much better bottom stand).
