It appears Topre has announced a new board at Computex 2016, complete with RGB lighting, cherry mx compatible sliders, and a new technology that allows the user to switch between 3 levels of actuation in the travel on the fly. Pretty amazing.

Will be waiting for a TKL or 60 %...

Not really a fan of backlighting. Seems excessive.

Topre please make a 60% or TKL with the MX sliders and I'm good.

Does it say how many grams the keyboard is? Or does that have something to do with the actuation point.

It's 45g afaik. The variable actuation doesn't change that.

I doubt they'd kill off their best selling board and just have one that caters to gamers. Now I wouldnt have a problem with them switching to the mx sliders on well everything, opens a new world of caps. I just hope they let me buy just those so I can use custom caps on my hhkb. I also thought someone else made the actual hhkb but it just uses topre switches, am I wrong?

If it keeps up the same quality as the existing RealForce line, I'm in (assuming they have a uniform weighted version).

Some say the connection between the slider and keycap is much better with the Topre form factor. Personally, I could care less. I'm perfectly happy with the stock Topre caps.

I'm also disinclined to purchase this new Topre mostly because the price might be inflated due to RGB, which I do not want. Also, if it's a full-sized board I'll definitely pass.

And if you are going mx sliders, please still provide decent pbt cap sets with the board. I truly enjoy the cup rubber with the thinner pbt.

At least crappy stock keycaps can be replaced and RGB LEDs can be shut off. Those aren't deal breakers. But MX sliders and a full size layout are strong deal makers for me. They could seal the deal by offering both black and white cases, which they've done with their RealForce boards in the past, so I remain ever hopeful.

I agree. Just turn them off. They add a little cost to a board, so that's kind of annoying, but we're talking about people that spend $300 on a Realforce, so. . .

LED backlighting is useful if you do a lot of typing in the dark. I don't. So I really don't need all those lights in my keyboard(s). I never really considered that hipsterism; I guess the engineer in me simply prefers to leave out pieces and parts I'm never going to use, and not out of cost concerns, but just as a design principle.

By the same token, I'm not sure what condescending term to use for those who actually like a keyboard that lights up like a Christmas tree, but I'm sure someone around here can provide us with one.

My dream is they release the firmware upgrade for existing Realforce/HHKB boards so we can change the actuation and maybe sell those mx sliders just so we can have some fun. Topre keycaps are my favourite though and as Rowdy said this doesn't bode well for resumed production of those

I guess it's mostly the RGB lighting / "windowed" keys that I dislike. Aside from that you are probably right it looks like pretty much every other full size mx black keyboard out there.

The black top-right corner (above the tenkey) looks weird, and I hate that default-layer and Shift-layer legends are crammed together (but who cares with MX-compatible stems).

Otherwise, it looks fairly generic indeed. The default typeface is fairly unobtrusive, but again: who cares?

The variable actuation is a hard feature to nail down. I like the idea, but at the end of the day it felt really odd on any setting other than the highest point. The higher actuation point is just one of the reasons why I love Topre so much.

I surely won't buy an RGB Topre for any reason. I avoid any backlighting whenever possible. But I still want this board to be a success. The wider audience Topre gets, the quicker they will continue to develop new products. Hopefully this does appeal to a certain target audience, though I feel like the price may turn off quite a bit of the gaming crowd, people that tend to just want as much flash for the lowest price possible.

Well, the RGB board might cause an influx that lowers the price of the other boards I guess. Hopefully, the RGB won't lower the quality of the originals.. time to stock up
