Lifted a single solder pad, how to repair?
« on: Mon, 27 June 2016, 07:00:48 »
Heya!

I lifted a single solder pad entirely from my escape key, and I am not sure how to repair it. I read online that I have to scrape the trace free from the solder mask, but it sounds dangerous and I would like to avoid that if possible.

What would be the best repair?

https://i.gyazo.com/a0164e1048a83dc1ac09aa4871b32afd.png (The solder pad to the left on the escape key in the very corner is fully lifted, it is just sitting on top of the pin unattached.)

Thanks guys!

EDIT:

So apparently I need AWG 22 or 24 cable to connect the Escape key to the key next to it.

Does thickness or type of AWG 22/24 cable matter? Do I just expose some of the copper/wire inside and just solder it on the pins?

Can I just use any copper wire, and how important is insulation, like would I be able to cut an use an old ethernet or usb cable etc for the job?

Thanks!

Easiest fix is to run a jumper wire.  Just follow the trace to the next open spot (looks like the left pin of the 1 key).

So kinda like running a copper wire from each pin, like shown in the bottom here?

That is way overkill.  This is plenty:

Alright, I cut an ethernet cable and now it works. Thanks!
