What is endgame Gameboy mod result?

Mine:
GBA AGB-001 with an AGS-101 screen. Have a custom-painted housing that looks like the original DMG Game Boy, and turned the power LED to blue.

Assuming I can get ahold of a sp for free.  What would this cost me? And what about batteries?

The SP is actually the most expensive component, but only if you have the AGS-101 and not AGS-001 model.
Other than that, any old AGB will work. The batteries would be normal AA, which I prefer since I use Eneloops anyway.
What mobo is the SP? I may have a compatible AGB mobo you can have.

Its good to know that there are different versions. 

I have a retro nes sp if that tells you a version.  I should have a total of 5 sps somewhere if I can find them.  Maybe I gave them away. Idr

Unfortunately the NES version didn't have the backlit screen. If you can find the others you can tell easily if they're backlit--just turn them around and look at the model number! What you want is AGS-101.
As for shells, I have a couple complete ones you can have as well (purple and pink), but it's the mobo you need to check to see if it's compatible with the AGS screen.

If and when you do this mod, the rest of the pieces shouldn't be more than $20 each, even if you have to buy a whole 'nother GBA if my mobo isn't compatible. It's the SP that will cost you at least $60.

Yeah bro, the DMG modding is usually for backlight, case mods, and sound mods for music artists (you can see a switch in the top right). For those who use the Gameboy to create chiptune music via LSDJ or whatever, its cool to customize your own lil instrument

Yeah, you can mod GBs. The biggest mods are making them backlit and improving the speakers. Otherwise, the rest are just aesthetics or small tweaks for personalization. The old GBs can have backlit screens in any color (since they were monochrome anyway).

And the reason krikkz's products are usually leagues above anyone else's is for ease and convenience. His Everdrives can utilize microSD cards, so all you gotta do is drag and drop the ROMs into the memory card, then plug the card into the cart and voila.
He tests them a lot as well, so they usually have near-100% compatibility. If there are any issues you can report them and he might include a fix in a later patch. They might seem expensive, but they're definitely worth the costs.
I think the only games that don't work with the Game Boy Everdrive are those that utilize the RTC, and the only ones that come to mind are Pokemon Gold, Silver, and Crystal. He said he might be working on a new PCB what will have a RTC, but it's not a priority since he's not a Pokemon fan anyway.

And I have all those Pokémon games in original carts anyways.   I'll have to look into his cart though.

So I found four sps but can't tell the model on two of them.  No stickers...  The two with are ags 001

What colors are they? If I remember correctly, I think the AGS-101 models also had darker buttons, but maybe on just one or two colorways.

For sure you can make your own, but you may have to keep tinkering with it if you run into crashes or glitches. I think I found a DIY kit on Tindie.

AGS 101s also have a darker screen when powered off. The front lit 001 models look grey when off and the 101 look black. I think the Onyx, glacier blue, and a red type color were 101 models, or at tended to be since I have seen both versions.

i've decided to screw it all!

one of the battery terminals is corrided which instead of fixing, i'll buy a pi zero, use one of the pi arcade / console emulators, chuck it inside and get some real use out of it! i've seen some nasty conversions and some nice ones. once i've decided on a screen, it shouldn't be too difficult to bodge it all inside!

The buttons and side panels, I believe, are cast. It's just the housing that isn't. The paint even comes off easily, too. I put a grip on it that fit really tight, and when I took it off I noticed a little nick on the back that showed some clear housing underneath.
The buttons are okay. Not sure what plastic they're made of, but they're not the same as the original Nintendo quality. They have a little "sticky" feeling, almost. The A and B buttons aren't too bad since you don't keep your thumb on them, but I had to switch my d-pad back. You can notice the gray d-pad on my pic; that's the original Nintendo one. The RCG case came with a black d-pad to better match the ol' DMG case, but it often gripped my thumb uncomfortably that it rubbed against the skin, especially on games where I had to change directions frequently. I had to switch it back after a week.

Yeah they have a tutorial about casting parts on their website so maybe that's the case. That's too bad about the quality, I had thought about looking out for one, but may just go murdered out black or something on mine, I have an ags 101 waiting for me to get the ribbon cable and time.
