Playing around with 75% layout with a HHKB key placement.
However, 'Esc' is up there and there is an empty space left by the moved 'Tilde'.

What can be put there? What do you think?

Yep, Home/End.

Very useful keys.

I planned to integrate from with the "Page Up" and "Page Down" keys.
Now it's more clear.

Although I use bash shell quite often, I use the 'tilde' e.g. for home and 'backtick' e.g. for output substitute not as often...
I do hit the Home/End more often then those two keys.

A few keys are not included here:
Menu, Meta

Keys that can usually be compromised in some other layouts:
Super/Win, Insert, PrtSc, NumLk, ScrLk, Pause, Break

I just notice that even the Type 5 and Type 6 keyboards of Sun MicroSystem have an empty key in front of F1 when they have their Esc key in front of '~' (Tilde).

Unlike their Compact 1 keyboard.

I like tilde for shortening certain directories when I'm in bash but I can see why some wouldn't want it as a primary key

Esc definitely, otherwise make no sense :D
I can use Ctrl+a/e for Home/End easily but not Ctrl+[ for Esc

You mean yet another Esc key? i.e. 2 Esc keys on this 75% keyboard?

Otherwise, then it will have a blank key on the left side of F1, like the Sun Type 5 and Type 6 keyboard.
In this case, what key will you put at that empty key location then?

If it's HHKB friendly, it should be an escape.

Then your question would be, what to use the key next to F1 for.

On my CP-SQ I just just have another tilde key because it's not  a very useful position.

With HHKB Number Row on boards with a Function Row I always make regular layout Tilde Esc and make Esc my handy dandy calculator button. Nine times out of ten I will have an artisan on that button anyways.
