[IC] Mitosis Wireless Split Ergonomic Keyboard
« on: Thu, 06 July 2017, 19:34:44 »
I just wanted to see if there was interest in a GB for the Mitosis Bluetooth Split Ergonomic Keyboard with acrylic case.

Fill in the interest form: https://flashquark.com/mitosis-interest-check/

You can see an album with pics of the board. wireless receiver, and case: http://imgur.com/a/SZ1kV

The Mitosis was made by /u/reverse_bias (Reddit).

It features an ingenius design where each full keyboard set uses 4 pcbs- 2 for the actual pcbs of the keyboard, and two with switch holes broken out to act as the plate.

Both halves of the board communicate wirelessly over bluetooth with the receiver which contains a pro micro flashed with the QMK firmware. The Mitosis firmware has already been included into the default QMK firmware: https://github.com/qmk/qmk_firmware/tree/master/keyboards/mitosis

Each half of the keyboard is powered by a CR2032 battery.

I have modified the original PCBs with screw holes so that the keyboard can be mounted into an acrylic case which I designed myself.
The open source files for the modified pcb can be found: https://github.com/nhou7/mitosis_with_case

I have decided to offer the option for the board to come fully assembled and firmware flashed due to the fact that it requires soldering of SMD components as well as flashing the bluetooth firmware using Linux. If you've never done SMD soldering before, there's quite a good chance that something will go wrong such as burning off pcb pads or soldering things in misaligned/shorted.

What's Included:

-Mitosis PCBs

-Receiver PCB

-All components required for the keyboard and receiver including pro micro and 3 bluetooth modules

-Acrylic Case w/standoffs and screws

-46 Switches - Any of the Gateron, Kailh Speed, or Kailh box switches available at https://flashquark.com

-3M Rubber Bumpons

-2x CR2032 Batteries

-ST-Linkv2 to flash the bluetooth module firmware

-Assembly of the entire keyboard

I'm definitely interested in a pre-assembled option. Would black PCBs like the original be possible?

Yep, I think it will most likely be black for the GB.

For all intents and purposes this is not a bluetooth keyboard, as it does not work with bluetooth devices.

Oh dang. I ordered the a pcb without the case a couple of weeks ago. I wish i had waited for this.
How much would a fully assembled one cost?

Maybe i would sell the unaseembled kit that i bought a couple of weeks ago when it arrives.

A couple questions:
Is the Mitosis compatible with switchtop removal/stem-swapping?
Is it possible to get an assembled kit minus the switches?

I ask because I'm not a fan of the switch options and would rather provide my own.

Are the holes for supporting the switches in the PCB cut as in the phantom plate? (So the switches can be changed without desoldering)

You are correct, I was thinking the wrong thing because the Waveshare module is bluetooth capable but the board doesnt actually use it, it uses nRF protocol. p

Fully Assembled with case and switches costs $200

The plate does not support switchtop removal.
Yep, you can definitely get the assembled kit minus the switches.
If you would like, you can also mail me the 46 switches and I can add them in during assembly.

Do you mean using holtites? If so, Im not sure if it would support them or not, and I dont have any around to test the board with unforch.

In any case, the GB is now open, you can join it here:

https://flashquark.com/product/gb-mitosis-wireless-split-ergonomic-keyboard-w-acrylic-case/

If you wish to use your own switches, just make a note during the ordering process specifying that you want me to assemble everything but the switches.
If you choose to send in switches for me to include during the assembly also leave a note stating that you wish to do so, and then please wait until the GB is over and I will notify you when to mail them to me. :)
