[Hesitating] Can't choose between 2 65%...
« on: Thu, 17 November 2016, 06:10:52 »
Hey guys!
In August, I ordered the White Fox with Zealios, because I think that i'll love the 65% ( Love the 60% but there isn't the arrow keys...) and wanted to try new switchs but now, it has been delayed, and they give us the possibility to cancel the order and to get refund. The only problem is that I'm used to the French ISO, and I took the True Fox layout, and I'm not sure I'll like it, but I just saw a topic in the IC section, it's about a 65% case : https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=85771.0 and there is A LOT of layout available, and it has a really nice aesthetic but the price is higher, and does not include the switch.
So now I'm hesitating between those two, and I can't put up my mind...
Hope you'll be able to help me!

Considering there are 24 for the public, I would stick with the Whitefox as that way you're guaranteed a keyboard.

It depends what you want from a 65% board though.

I will start off by saying the quality of TGR/yuktsi's board are unbelievable. Everyone raves about them and they are fairly sought after (previous layouts). That being said there is no guarantee you will get one as they are released in fairly limited quantities. You will have to watch very closely, but I do highly recommend the 910 over the Whitefox if you are able to get one. The Whitefox is a guarantee the 910 is a gamble.

Yeah the limited factor makes it a bit risky
I'd like my new keyboard to be much more compact than the one that I have now (a fullsize Ducky Channel Shine 4), to be aesthetic, to be in good material and to last long

Here's a strange question that might help - where is the shiny patch on your current enter key?  I press mine at the top on the wide bit and even when I had trained my brain that backspace was there (I was using a HHKB) I still hit the same place for enter, so no ANSI enters for me!

The case in IC is great but when you're doing comparative costs don't forget you need stabilisers as well as switches, probably plus international shipping - it all adds up.

If you knew you loved 65% then I'd say get the expensive one as it's as good as it gets, but it's a gamble for your first.  Plus it's only in IC so it will be months before you see the case (assuming you get one) and it's a group buy so has risks - see sticky.

It's a bit strange but I type on the middle of the key, half on the top of the key (which is wider) and the other half on the bottom of the key (which is thiner), so I think it won't be to hard to adapt.

Whatever I'll get I will end up paying taxes (damn it Massdrop, still not in Europe?)  :(
I estimate the other cost as 80$ with shipping (70 Zealios + Cherry stabs from ZealPC)
So it would be ~200$ more
I definitely need to think about it...

Finally, I decided to send an Email to cancel my order of the White Fox. At worst I won't have the TGR-910 (will be a bit sad, but I still got my Shine 4 and could potentially pick up a keyboard on /r/mechmarket ), at best, I'll be really happy with a new beautiful custom keyboard!
Hope I made the right decision  ;D

Little bump here.
Got in the sale for the TGR 910 (was the second one to enter, at least I didn't stay up all night for nothing  :D ), but now I realize I don't which switch I should put on this kustom...
I actually have a ducky with MX Red, and I'd maybe like to get something a bit heavier, and maybe try tactile? Thought about Zealios 62/65g and MOD-L/M, what do you think?
