Detailed comparison of HHKB and Type-S internals?
« on: Sat, 10 December 2016, 04:45:18 »
Wondering if anyone has done an actual, thorough comparison of the internals of a standard HHKB vs the Type-S?

I've seen some pictures that suggest that the Type-S stems are larger to compensate for the silencing foam, but on the PFU site they state that the Type-S has 0.2mm less travel, supposedly because of the foam. Or maybe the foam is thicker than 0.2mm? To me, at least, my Type-S feels more stable and controlled than the standard HHKB. It feels like something else is going on, because I've tried silencing my QFR before I got the Type-S, and it always felt worse than the original, whether I was using o-rings or landing pads. Could also be that the  PFU foam is somehow special?

I believe the type s uses the normal Topre black slider while silenced realforces use a slightly different purple stem which is supposed to compensate for the silencing material.

The type s may use the same silencing pad but with standard sliders, thus the slight reduction in travel.

Ah I see, so only the Realforce has the special, longer stems. I wasn't aware, thanks!
