Unfortunately there is some ping, but I believe all plate mounted boards have this. You don't really notice it unless you are closes with your ear to keyboard and try to listen it.
That's it I'm going PCB mount. Bye bye metal plates.

Nah, it's not ALWAYS the plate. I believe it has to do with the springs with heaver switches (= heavier springs) that pop back more strongly and thus resonate more.

Though now that I say that... that may mean that it is the metal plate that resonates then, not so much the spring in the switch.

Thing about PCB mounted switches is even though I prefer the sound they feel like dog**** to type on IMO.

Can you elaborate? Do they feel more 'mushy', less stable or something like that?

They feel cheap and hollow almost toy like to type on IMO however to be fair I have only tried PCB mounted on the Race II so perhaps it was just the one board itself?  But while I didn't mind the sound the feel just wasn't spectacular.  Of course they have the advantage of being easier to repair and open the switches for modification but the feel was different enough I would not build nor buy a PCB mounted board for myself.

But sir, it is barely noticable. I have had different Filcos for many years and just recently noticed it after changing keycaps to aliexpress pbt stuff.

Also you can always install some mat under it to reduce the sound.

Ping comes from switch spring resonating with metal plate.

Makes sense.

Also regarding keyboard ping:

  • It is usually bit more severe on some parts of the keyboard. My Filco worst place was left part of F row (F2 especially).
  • Depends how you type. If you release keys fast and hard you will hear it more.
  • Really not that big of a problem imo.

What I learned about keyboard pinging in GH is that not all plate mounted boards ping and not all boards that ping are so loud to be annoying.

I'm glad that your pinging is barely noticeable.

What I learned about keyboard pinging in GH is that not all plate mounted boards ping and not all boards that ping are so loud to be annoying. I'm simply very unlucky because my Filco is unusually loud and constant in its resounding. (Actually the volume decreased a bit from the beginning, but it's still very much noticeable.)

I'm glad that your pinging is barely noticeable. Unfortunately it's a big problem for me.
I see, it is very unfortunate. But you are right about some boards having it less or not at all.

Which parts of your filco are more louder btw?

That's the "very unlucky" part, it's most of the keys!
Many alphas, the T, O, S, F, and R leading the chorus, but also the modifiers such as Shift, Ctrl, Alt Gr, the Del and left arrow in the cluster.

What switch are we talking about? Clears? Blacks?

I have silent reds in a Majestouch and the "pinging" is very quite.  Maybe you need to turn on a fan or something so you don't hear a pin drop :)

Ok I have received my Filco Majestouch 2 Tenkeyless HAKAU (White) with Silent Reds.

TL;DR: IT'S AMAZING. No ping, though I can hear the springs a little bit under the "e" key. Regards the left shift: only if I press on the right side of the LEFT shift key and on the LEFT side of the RIGHT shift key can I hear a bit of a squeeze. These are definitely the stabs. So lube I guess?

As for quietness.. it really IS the quietest board I have around (compared to topre 55g plate mounted, hhkb 45g, clears, and browns). It is very very smooth, almost as smooth as topre. It feels better for me personally actually. It feels like those acrylic case macintosh keyboards with white keys. Very very smooth. Bottoming out also feels dampened, like typing on vilt or something.

I immediately installed red 40A o-rings. AND I immediately removed them. They removed travel too much and the typing experience WITHOUT o-rings is soo much better. I never thought I would say this: red o-rings suck for mx reds. Perhaps try out black o-rings? Who knows.

ASK ME ANYTHING

Nice that you are happy with your Filco Hakua. I still haven't fixed my left shift, but seems like one of the stabilizers is bad, moves around in case :(

Yeah I think that my stabilizer also moves too much. But that is literally the only thing I could complain about.

I EVEN LIKE MY ABS CAPS!! They feel like Apple keycaps on the older keyboards... a bit textured but soft and smooth. (I HATE ABS caps typically).
