How many of you have a business of your own?

Just wanted to know if you guys are having a business of your own or most of you are employed or studying.
We can learn from entrepreneurs here.

I don't own one but my dad does.

I remember him getting up super early to go to work (tradie) and getting home around dark only to do paperwork till like 11 pm every night.

funny thing is he used to get pretty good contracts when he had employees. But on the flipside, it pretty much ate profits.

Around 2008 it went tits up for him, bad contract with a guy that went bust and didnt pay him.

Now he has no employees, chooses easy jobs, works much less and pretty much has a similar lifestyle as before.

I've often thought about taking the plunge and starting a little PC repair business.
I've got a lot of experience with fixing laptops and pcs and wouldn't need any other employees because there wouldn't be that much work I don't think.
I'd still need to keep my main job as now though. But it could give a few extra bucks to throw around.

Then I realize how many of those shops are around here and the only way I'd be able to compete was the price.

Really depends on your definition of a 'business'.

Full-time graphic designer while MB is part-time. So 8am-5pm then 6pm-2am Hopefully full-time soon.

My grandfather started a medical manufacturing business that my dad quickly succeeded. I'm next in line, so I suppose I could say yes to the question in the future.

It's ended up having real good growth in the 35+ years it's been around, went from everything being run from my grandfather's garage to setting up shop in a former shoe factory, then finally moving out of there and building our own building, with it's second expansion in the works.

It's a lot to learn, though, makes my head spin some days  )

Getting ready to. My father has been a financial advisor / consultant for almost 40 years and he has been running his own business for about 35 years. My brother joined the business about 15 years ago. I joined about 10 years ago after a stint in the engineering world.

This October, my dad is going to flip the business to my brother and me and start winding down.

I do not own my own but I run 2 different businesses for my boss. He has another full time job and I keep the ones that he owns going. Hopefully someday I will own my own.
