[IC] DSA Frost
« on: Sun, 25 November 2018, 16:57:56 »
Hey!

Allow me to introduce you to the coolest keyset of the season: DSA Frost!

This name may ring a bell for some of the more seasoned members of the community, as it was my very first IC. In the 2 years since I have used my experience from GMK 9009 and Modern Dolch, and have completely redone the set.  I've been planning to re-release this set for a while, but I figured there was no better time than now with winter right around the corner!

Inspiration

As the name might suggest, this set is inspired by those cold winter days. The combo of sky blue modifiers and snow white alphas makes for the set's minimal yet fresh look. Add to this some blue-grey accents representing those breathtaking mountain peaks, and you've got a set that will freshen up any board!

Profile

Don't let the name "DSA" fool you, this won't be made with paper thin walls. Frost will be made with thick, dye sublimated PBT plastic. Combining the durability of PBT plastic with the premium feel of thicker keycaps will make this keyset worthy to be on your keyboard! :)

Kit design

Another benefit of designing a keyset in DSA profile is the great flexibility with which you can design kits. As you can see, I didn't opt to go with one big and expensive base kit. Splitting up the kits into smaller segments means you can customize your order to your needs. This way, you won't be paying for keys you don't need but people with more exotic layouts can still get all keys to fit their boards.

Alphas

60% Modifiers

TKL Modifiers

Speciality Modifiers

40% Modifiers

Numpad

Accents

Regular Spacebars

Small Spacebars

A few combination examples

  • Vortex Poker: Alphas + 60% modifiers + Regular Spacebars
  • WASD Code: Alphas + 60% Modifiers + TKL Modifiers + Regular Spacebars
  • HHKB style 60%: Alphas + 60% Modifiers + Speciality Modifiers + Regular Spacebars

I like it, just filled out your IC form. The number pad kit isntít listed on your IC check. If this set makes it, Iíll be in for alphas, 40%, number pad, & regualr/small space bar kits.

I would be in for most kits. I like the gray accent.

If it's not SP, who the manufacturer? I kind of presumed keyreative were out of the DSA game.

I was planning on using Keyreative yeah, Zfrontier told me they were going to put me in touch with them so I assume there's no issue there?

Either way, this very much still is an interest check right now. I'll have to see if there's enough demand for this to be turned into a GB, but I was quite impressed when trying Keyreative DSA at a meetup so wanted to give this IC a shot.

If there is enough demand and/or MOQ is low enough that could be an option yes :)

I only have reservations given they changed starry night round 2 from DSA to Kam mid run thanks to issues with the supplier of the blank caps. Maybe they've managed to change to a more reliable supplier. Personally I'm not a fan of keyreative DSA as it stands and would opt for sp everytime. Only the price is attractive with keyreative.

That being said, love the design, and watching with interest!
