Adding updated information here for specs:

D=25mm - the OD/outer diameter of the coils
D1=6.5mm - the OD of the cable itself
L1=150mm - the end that plugs into the keyboard
L2=500mm - the end that plugs into the pc/hub
L=448mm - the length of the coiled section
Connector options: USB A, B, Mini, Micro, C, and others on request.

More

People like thick cables. People like coils. Some people really like the aesthetic of cables off of vintage keebs. Why not combine those things into a modern equivalent? That's what I'm trying to do here. Dubbed "OG Coil" Cables, these are meant to replicate the look of vintage cables through thicc insulation and factory made coils that can stand more abuse than hand made coils. Right now the tentative specs of the cables are:

8mm cable OD
110cm overall length in the following layout:
USB(B/Mini/Micro/C)---4cm---///30cm///---76cm----USB A
Matte black insulation
Tentative pricing of $25-$30
MOQ of 100

These are the current specs that I've requested quotes for from the manu, but they could easily be changed. I'll put some questions below concerning what could be changed about the cables.

I've always loved the industrial aesthetic of vintage cables... The artisan-styled ones never did anything for me. I'm down for a couple!

I’ve been looking for one of these with nice connectors for a while. I would probably get at least one, maybe more if enough demand is indicated for multiple cables.

One thing I'm looking into is getting connectors that are maybe a bit better suited to this application than my stock ones, but without being a risk of breaking USB ports off PCBs like yarbo ones.

Yeah the Yarbo cables come close but IMO the connectors look a bit sloppy and they're heavy.

An aviator connection might relieve the USB by shifting the main weight back? Dunno how people would feel about that with this though.

I personally think aviator connections look too big/bulky on USB cables.
I found a pic I saved of the one I saw on kbdlabs a few years ago (would be even sweeter if we could get beige heat shrink):

I've never seen a cable nicer than that of the IBM model f at / xt. We should really try to replicate the thickness, the shine and smoothness of that rubber. The spiral is much bigger than usual. It's a joy to touch it.

I do think 4cm is quite a bit too short for the 'small end' of the straight part of the cable, perhaps doubling it to 8cm, to assure maximum compatibility with boards/other thing people want to use it for... as well as to get the bigger bulk of the coil a bit further away from the keyboard/thing for compatibility with some desk environments (whether it be for aesthetic or functional reasons)

(the short end of the straight part of the cable is about 12cm on a model M SDL cable, for what thats worth)

Looks interesting. Just so everyone knows, the "THICC" cable and extra big coil options are a lot larger than the old school IBM beige cables. This is more along the lines of the "medium" sized options in the form.

all OTDs are ps/2

all OTDs that use default controller are ps/2 if you use the a356 controller you can use USB.

I 10/10 agree and I'm quite interested. As far as heatshrink goes, I think it should remain black as opposed to doing grey/beige as another user mentioned.

Heatshrink can easily be to-order rather than making everything the same.
