Alternative for Zealios V1?
« on: Wed, 31 October 2018, 09:23:06 »
What would be a good alternative for zv1 now that they are discontinuing them. I personally don't like the new v2 as the tactility isn't drawn out enough.

Where did you get Zealio v2? I'd like to do a direct comparison between v2 and R11 v1 that I have before I commit to selling v1. Thanks for letting us know about the major tactility change because I was planning on selling them ASAP. I even got Tealios as a temporary replacement until I get the v2.

Kailh Pro Purple are not even close in feel to Cherry MX Clear, Zealios v1 or Outemu Ice.

I think I may have mentioned them before as a possible replacement, but I had been misled by Kailh's official force graph.

I personally haven't tried them in person but a lot of people are saying that the tactility is that similar to box royals and I didn't favor those that much. Maybe I should wait to try them in person though.

I really like Kailh Pro purples, but they are nowhere close to Zealios in tactility. I consider them "what cherry browns should've been" and highly recommend them for budget builds.

So the Zilents V1 are discontinued, and the used the same slider bump as V1 Zealios, right?

I hope that Gateron Clear, with MX-Clear - like stem will become available, especially a Gateron Silent Clear - variant.

Zeal commissioned the molds himself, so hopefully Gateron can use them for generic switches if Zeal has no more use for them.

Then again, I doubt he'd be very keen about his own supplier selling generic tactiles for 1/10th the price of his. Gateron likely makes a lot of money from Zeal and wouldn't be too keen on displeasing him.

That would be a very nice gesture towards the community from Zeal if he let Gateron use the old V1 molds to produce more of the clear tactiles they made a few batches of before he asked them to discontinue them. Although at that time they were for all intents & purposes were a generic Zealio. Now that he has drastically changed the molds & the V2s have a wholly different feel I couldn't see them encroaching on his sales like they would have before. Ultimately Zeal owns both sets of molds & can do what he wants with them, so we'll have to wait & see what happens. If I had to guess, how well the V2s are received will play a huge role in something like this happening or not.

Well, Winkeyless got a small batch of Gateron's MX Clear clones. Apparently, Zeal intervened, making Gateron stop making them.

Myself, I am only interested in silenced Cherry MX Clear clones. Kbdfans Aliaz is a silenced clone of MX Brown according to reviews (contrary to what Kbdfans themselves say).
I use Clears with silencing clips now ("Zealencios"... ) but they are not very effective and they reduce key travel both at start and end. I want to get back that pre-travel before the bump that my MX Clears used to have. The V2 Zilents don't have any travel before the bump (according to reviews).

Given the popularity of MX Clears (MX Browns as well outside of the enthusiast community) & the fact Gateron offers a silent Brown I'm really surprised Cherry hasn't jumped on makingat least one or the other. Have you tried V1 Zilents? They are the closest to a silenced MX clear that's readily available. Although they really don't have much pre-travel before you hit the bump compared to a MX clear. Still very nice & more tactile than Aliaz switches IME.

The remains of R11 v1 Zealios are still being offered by KBDFans here: https://kbdfans.cn/collections/zealios-switches/products/zealio-swtich-tactile

Get them while you can.

Beware! They may be fake (I say this in light of the recent discovery of KBDfans selling fake Tealios).

If you want a safe option, I would definitely say something along the lines of Ergo Clears. They aren't going to be as smooth, but I find the tactility to be a bit more satisfying.

I can confirm. I received some Zealios a few months ago from them, and they have the shiny PCB leg mounts and milky stem that the forgeries are known for.
