good or bad find?
« on: Fri, 07 May 2010, 09:30:48 »
A local gumtree seller is selling some old ibm gear. I phoned up about the keyboard and she said its an  InfoWindow 3153 with a part number 8131277. Struggling to find any good info on the keyboard though - is it worth chasing up?

Also, whats a good resource cross-referencing ibm part numbers?

InfoWindow is a type of IBM dumb terminal. 3153 will be able to be cable swapped like my signature links explain.

Conversion techniques exist. It is not natively PS/2 or anything truly usable, yet.

Just take all of the IBM equipment. That's what I would do.

If she's going to junk it, I'd at least take the keyboard for parting out here (keycaps are mostly normal Model M compatible assuming it's a Model M type keyboard rather than F)

Other than that, little use unless you're into hardware hacking on any level.

A 3151 is a Model M. It's one of those 101-keys where each F key has two  numbers on it (i.e. - F1 F13, F2 F14 etc)

In fact, it might be one of those terminal minis...

So when I finally decide to tell people there's nothing special about a terminal keyboard, I potentially advise someone away from a terminal mini?
