Arrows AND an alpha colored apostrophe/quote key. I might have to sell a keyboard to buy this.

Correct, the exact time on the day depends on the timezone though, best to order by 31st to be safe.

is this keyset waterproof?

At room temperature yes! ABS will suffer from boiling water IIRC

Is it the same alphas color as GMK Nautilus ?

No, much darker alphas on this one.

I just noticed 2.75u convex keys, does this mean the mold has been made now? Also two R3 nav keys is nice, I know the perfect keyboard for this. Will order in a couple of weeks :p

Yes, those molds are being made for Carbon despite its struggle, and Calm Depths will be produced afterwards since we close January 1st 2019 and Carbon ends in a couple days.

Stay tuned for EU/Asian proxies, also revealing tray design soon  ;)

Still don't get what kind of witchery you and kono pulled off in order to get this pricing, but I'm loving it and that's exactly what we need! Already hop in for a base + space kit. Now moving forward, if only this could be a staple for all GMK sets hmmm....

GMK Wavez won't be at least until Q2 I think, with Godspeed, Danger Zone and Oblivion are all scheduled on Q1. Also this price, it's a no brainer to join. Hop in and welcome on board  :thumb:

Don't want to diverge away from the group buy discussion for another keyset. I remember the man Oblotzky himself mentioned GMK at some point in the past, but you could always ask him directly if that's your concern.

GMK Oblivion V2 is scheduled for 2019, SP SA probably not before 2020. But yeah that's all I'm gonna say about this in this topic, please don't derail :)

Thanks to that price I’m now on the fence between this and JTK Hyperfuse (before I didn’t consider this set at all). In your opinion, if I combine violet tendencies alphas with these mods^^ how close is it to hyperfuse? 🤗

An Oblotzky set with UK ISO included in the base kit =P, not being run on Massdrop and EU receiving first!? And it's only €129! Have I died and gone to heaven? I had never planned on getting same set in different profiles but it looks like I'm going to have to break that rule for this.

If they match JTK Hyperfuse against the SP sets, then there should be quite a difference. This mix would be more along the lines of the first GMK rounds that used stock colors. So it really depends on how 'authentic' you want to go for.

Also just realized that both Calm Depths and Shoko are all very affordable at under $135 for a base kit. It's even more mind blowing given the fact that both sets use custom color which would raise the overall price of the kits. Just about when I'm about to lose hope in an affordable GMK set, they pull this out. Whoever from kono is behind all of this negotiations with GMK certainly didn't miss a day in their business 101 class  :thumb:

One of the current GMK Carbon set's unique features is its R5 bottom row.  But all the Spacebars in its Space kit will be R4C?  I see that some of the Spacekeys are R4, but assumed the unlabeled Spacebars were all R5C.

No, all spacekeys will remain in the standard spacebar shape, which is usually called R4C.

Looks like it. With shipping about the same price from main store and proxy. It is cheaper to order from kono store instead.

Color matching is still pending at this stage. It will be matched against the original SA round, I can take some pictures of my set later. GMK is pretty good at matching colors so I wouldn't worry, some sets I've previously worked on or assisted:

GMK Oblivion (ignore bottom row since those are stock colors I chose, the 6 at the top are the ones that were matched against SP chips)

GMK Space Cadet

We have time until 1 January 2019 to jump in GB? I'm between this and GMK Wavez, trying to decide :S

GMK Wavez won't be at least until Q2 I think, with Godspeed, Danger Zone and Oblivion are all scheduled on Q1. Also this price, it's a no brainer to join. Hop in and welcome on board  :thumb:

Regarding this department, you got plenty of chances to redeem yourself. Your wallet, however, might not be very happy lol

Any photos of physical samples?

Color matching is still pending at this stage. It will be matched against the original SA round, I can take some pictures of my set later. GMK is pretty good at matching colors so I wouldn't worry, some sets I've previously worked on or assisted:

GMK Oblivion (ignore bottom row since those are stock colors I chose, the 6 at the top are the ones that were matched against SP chips)
Show Image

GMK Space Cadet

GMK Camping

Thanks for the info Oblotzky, it's reassuring. I'd still be interested in seeing GMK samples when you have them on hand though. The colors on SP SA's shiny finish can vary from GMK's matte finish in different lightings. I have high hopes for this set since the color way has been ran before, and all your sets have looked good in the past. But Laser came out less impressive than the renders looked (imho)

I'll definitely post them as soon as I have them on hand, but can't guarantee this will be before the GB closes!

biip created a incredible tray design based on a concept by t0mb3ry!

Both the Base and the Assembly kit will have a fully designed tray, just the spacebar kit will be simply shrink wrapped  :)

The tray is super cool, but I don't see how a vinyl record plays in with the "Calm Depths" theme. I was expecting something more ocean related lol.

One of my favorite designs but the logic in me thinks the letters should be cut off where the centre of the vinyl has it's hole.

I agree! The design, while very cool in its own right, seems quite arbitrary as it relates to this set.

I'm not quite sure I understand the question, could you rephrase?

Regarding the tray design being a vinyl: The first thing that comes to mind for the set name is oceans, deep waters etc, but I couldn't come up with a suitable design for that theme. T0mb3ry made a mockup of the vinyl idea which biip then expanded, and I personally really like it because: #1 it looks dope, #2 I think the set name could easily be the name of a chill trance album. Plus this being a Cherry re-run of a SA set, it's sort of a remix ;)

Yes sorry, my english is weird sometimes. I mean, other sets I see have 1 extra 6.25, 6u and 7u spacebars in a Spacebar kit. This set only have 1 spacebar of each type, no extras to use as a replacement . Why?

Other sets don't have them as replacement but as accent spacebars for example. Since there is no accent color on this set, the only other option would be a modifier spacebar. But I don't want to add 15-20$ price to the spacebar kit for the 5% of people that use modifier colored spacebars.

#2 on Assembly kit top side, the kit name is now in light blue rather than dark blue
#3 Base kit set list numbering was 11. followed by 13., now 11. 12.

It's such a shame, that the international set hasn't got enough interest. I would love to have it in complete ISO-DE.

I'll see if we can extend the buy a few days into January so that people that depend on the new paycheck can get in as well.

Currently we are looking very good on MOQ for Base and Spacebars, about 75% on each. Assembly is struggling as usual 40%. Pretty safe to say this set is getting made at least for the first two kits, Assembly we'll have to see how sales further develop!

I bought a hagoromo gmk set when they ran on Keyclack a while back and I love it, but I know we also had trouble with MOQ numbers for each set. If you plan on re-running the set do you think that maybe a better option would be to offer one core set, and then they white alphas as an add-on kit?

The GMK Oblivion set will be the same size as this Calm Depths? If so, maybe the price can be the same?

Do we have MOQ info on the kits? I am assuming that all the kits will be made and Kono will sell them at higher prices than GB.

I have good news, some very good news, and even more good news!

We have successfully reached MOQ on both the Base Kit and the Spacebars Kit! And while Assembly is hovering around 60%, we have decided to extend the GB until the 15th of January for the following reason. First, I wanted to add another week so that people can catch some breath after Christmas and New Years. But we turned that into two weeks because Kono is attending the CES next week so they wouldn't be home to close down the sale and submit the order right away, hence we decided to close it on the 15th instead. Hopefully we can call Assembly a success by then as well!

And lastly: I have approved the custom legend color from GMK, I'll be posting some pictures of that tomorrow. Mod and Alpha colors will be done next.

Have a great new year, and I'll keep you updated on the progress of this project soon. Thanks for all the support!

All 3 colors of this set are custom made, they are created by matching color samples from the OG SA Calm Depths set

Well, that beats 40%, so it's a start.

If it fails to hit MOQ, is there any chance of vendor salvation? Or will it be abandoned?

Joined for Assembly and Spacebars… I know that GMK is color matching to the SP samples, but if there is any question on alpha color… leaning less saturated would be my preference. I have a SP SA sample and the darkish blue color seems a bit more saturated than your renders. I prefer your renders if it comes down to it, more muted alpha.

Also hoping that Assembly goes through… maybe vendors can help if it gets close, as stated above? ^^

Thanks for all your work… great stuff.

The Mars has a staggered layout that is covered by the Base kit, which has already met MOQ and is not in trouble. It's only the Assembly kit currently that is still to make it.

Just added my support to the Assembly kit. I didn't see originally that it had such good coverage for staggered 40s as well -- at first glance it just looked like an ergodox kit, of which I already have quite a few. As such it actually is quite flexible for small boards, both ergo and staggered, so kudos on this kit design! And the extension gave me time to get funds together :)

Fingers crossed that it makes it -- hope we've made some more progress on the MOQ!

I’m in New Zealand so my natural proxy is Zfrontier, but it seems like there are often major delays in getting things shipped out from them (e.g. GMK Olivia). Is this common with orders from them?

Even with shipping, Kono works out at basically the same price, and it seems like I’d get my keycaps much faster.

From what I've heard it was only Olivia and Phantom that had been troublesome for zFrontier, and that was because of Chinese customs. I'd still order from zFrontier if I were you.

The set will close 3pm in EU tomorrow (Tuesday), I'll instruct Kono to do the same at 3pm west coast time for US. for zF I'm not sure how timely they will close shop so just order ASAP I guess

Color samples! Cyan (legends) and Blue (alphas) have been signed off. Gray (modifiers) is being matched. The blue is the same as Yuri modifiers actually, since at some point that set was heading towards SA profile and t0mb3ry matched BFR for GMK production in 2016.

Now you may point out that the blue isn't that spot on, it feels a bit more purplish (like a hint of laser mods), but I attribute this mostly due to different surface structure of the keys. My SA set is very shined in, while GMK still has a very rough top surface. I've compared the keys in daylight (coldish winter sky here, so not warm light at all), and in the lightbox. I think it's a superb match that can't really be done better, so those two colors are currently locked in for production.

Nice!

Stupid me kept staring at the keyboard wondering why the GMK looked exactly like SA before i realised the GMK was hiding in there somewhere. Heh. Set looks much better in GMK than SA! Much.... calmer?

Colour wise, the blue and cyan both look spot on compared to the SA.

The renders do look quite a bit greyer shade of blue than the actual alphas.

I agree with Oldcat on this one. Not that the color sample is bad, but there is a bit of a difference between it and the renders. However, I understand that you're trying to match with SA Calm Depths, and for good reason.

Thanks! Hope Oblotzky is not in such a hurry to sign off the colors. GB hasn’t ended yet :)

Personally I joined because of the grayish blue base. It’s very unique. I’d personally be very disappointed with a navy blue alpha. But again, I’d hear out what other buyer say about this one.

Edit: if there are more straight forward comparisons under correct white balance it will be great. Maybe I’m looking at the wrong cap or something and it felt way off...

I also prefer the renders more than the actual color samples, but I guess renders always tend to look better :P , either way, I'm excited for this set!

FWIW I also prefer the blue-grey from the renders compared to the samples.

I do understand that you’re trying to match to the original SA set though and I’m still excited for it even with the more navy alphas!

i joined in for this.  i always liked the calm depths colorway, but absolutely cannot stand untypeable, terribad SA keycaps.  looking forward to this GMK version.  :p

Hey everyone,

it appears yesterdays photos caused a bit of a concern for some. First of all I'd like to emphasize that my goal from the beginning has been to replicate the colors of the SA version as closely as possible. I hope this was clear as this was stated in the group buy description at the very top, I have no intentions to mislead anyone into a different product. I will try to improve color accuracy in my renders in the future to hopefully avoid situations like these (luckily the next set is mostly gray, so this should not be an issue there). I do all my renders in a fully desaturated lighting environment, so whatever pantone/ral/hex/rgb colors I am using (https://deskthority.net/wiki/Signature_Plastics_ABS_colours in this case) should be unaffected. The only change would be brightness depending on how much light I use in the scene, and bounce light from neighboring keys (e.g. a red accent key will bounce off some light onto surrounding keys, giving them a small area of red highlight). However the overall tone should be rather close to what you would see IRL in a neutral lighting environment.

Below you will find another picture, this time taken at my desk with no artificial lights, solely the natural winter sunlight that is coming through my window. While it still hasn't got the 'grayish' aesthetic that some of you are seeking the renders give off, it should have less of the navy tone that was mentioned. It matches the original set very closely IMO.

Thank you for your feedback, I hope you will happy with the final product.

Appreciate the update and by no means did I think you were trying to mislead.

I'm still in for the buy and I like what I see in the follow-up picture, so thank you!

thanks for the clarification! no worries, didn't occur to me that you were out to deceive. i did notice early on your stated objective of matching SA colours and entered anyway figuring I would be fine with either outcome (though I much prefer the render greyer tone).

Given the recent hoo-ha over GMK Necro, I wonder if there's any way to improve the colour accuracy of renders to prevent potential misunderstandings.

EDIT: Perhaps a designer out there might want to take a stab at a new colour way matching the renders here? "Calmer Depths" Heh Heh...

understandable! after all you mentioned its meant to replicate Calm Depths! but the renders look good, or rather renders always look good! Will still 100% support it!

I think the colors match perfectly, we still have to see the grey one :P. It's true the renders looks more like a blue-grey

The renders have a gray component in the alphas color, while the real photos do not. That is why there is some concern.

All proxies have closed their buy pages for this set. Assembly kit has made it to MOQ!

In a few weeks, kono.store will reopen their store page for the set and offer extras at a increased retail price as long as their extra inventory lasts.

Thanks to everyone that participated!  :thumb: I'll keep you posted with updates.

Kinda silly to ask, but will the Assembly kit receive a tray design, or will it ship without one?

If you mean the banderole, there is one for the Assembly kit. I think it looks pretty boss!

Stoked for Assembly, since I'm looking to fit it into my Boardwalk build if I can. If not that, then the Preonic I have on order :)
Looking forward to Sanctuary Rebirth, GMK Wavez, and the next paycheck.
