AV to VGA cable
« on: Sat, 12 April 2014, 12:26:25 »
I want to display my Wii (first generation I believe. I just currently use it as a gamecube to play melee on.) on a computer monitor. Would a cable like this http://www.amazon.com/eforCity-336047-Computer-S-Video-Adapter/dp/B004I53ZX2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1397322963&sr=8-1&keywords=av+to+vga let me do that? All the plugs and stuff look like it would be the correct ones, but is there any compatibility issues between specific types of monitors and the Wii that would cause this to not work?

Also, if anyone knows of a better forum (maybe a monitor or computer hardware oriented forum), could you please direct me there too? I had no idea where to post this question so I just did on Geekhack because this is the only forum I really ever go to.

Hello! I do not think that would work. You need some kind of converter(the signal is converted by gpu in the computer on the adapter you linked). something like this should help:

Keyboards: Dell AT102W (matias standard clicky), Maltron two-hand 3D fully ergonomic keyboard (Vintage MX Black). CM QF XT (MX Grey) IBM model M

You could just use something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Wii-PS3-VGA-HDTV-Cable-Nintendo/dp/B0015MISAG/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

I use a similar product for my 1st gen 360 which only has composite video, and hook it up directly to my monitor. You are gonna see some image ghosting, and perhaps some washed out or off-tint coloring, but after a while you get used to it. You would need a convertor box if you want improved image quality, or an HDMI convertor.

I would also need a VGA cable to connect that converter to the monitor right?

Is a converter box the device that blackbox posted?

I'm not too sure about that one, it might be good. I'm a big fan of the XRGB mini. It arguably the best convertor for gaming made today, but it's pretty pricy.

Hello again. The one I posted is a converter box and you do not need an extra vga cable. The one I linked has a EU powerplug (CEE 7/4 or 7/16). I will find an american one.
