Features Roadmap
« on: Thu, 19 July 2012, 16:38:43 »
What we're working on now:

Even faster, safer hardware, software config. (hardware purchased -- MUCH more fast and redundant storage is incoming. software is in good shape.)

various internal changes to SMF to make it easier to work with and safer

some people are still having issues getting emails. please notify us when this happens by whatever means possible (ask a friend, post on DT, email mods@geekhack, etc)

a real ruleset and very light but consistent moderation

What we'll work on in the future:

post tagging

revision histories per post

single-sign-on for the wiki and forum

rewrite the spy to 1) index recent posts instead of recently updated topics 2) mouseover-to-preview-post

Unified, customized GH UI with multiple color and banner options. the primary changes we want to make to the current template is 1) simplify simplify simplify 2) get rid of the relatively opaque icons used to indicate things like unread posts etc currently and replace them with stronger visual indicators 3) add ajax interactivity and preview where possible

fix notifications (need better documentation of exactly what's wrong + repro info)

DONE:
strike and spoiler tags
inline attachments, image lightboxing
ispy-style "most recent posts" page  (note: http://geekhack.org/index.php?action=recent) (close enough)
cat videos
Get wiki software up and running.

One "bug" I noticed, is if I read threads on tapatalk, they still show up as new on the site.  Not the actual thread itself, but the group or subgroup is lit up as unread.

The spy should really highlight topics with unread items.
I had a sig once but it's gone. It used to display an icon of a Kinesis. Just imagine that.

The spy should really highlight topics with unread items.

This I don't get... after a certain point everything on the spy will be unread.

Better PM system, like one that shows the newest at the top.

Also, control+B for bold, control+i for italics.... nothing major

The issue with the PM post sorting is the option for reverse-sorting by date is global across PMs and forums.  It'll take some work to split that. (or perhaps there's a mod for it somewhere)

Any information on the wiki?  I see it is crossed off, does this mean it's not an immediate concern?

the problem is technically solved (ie, there is a wiki), but we're still trying to decide how to manage it

Not if you open some of the threads. If even, it is still nice to see how much is new since you last checked.

Nice fixing of the strikethrough feature that was working from the start.

Is there a way to search inside a specific topic?

frankly, i need to apologize for how long it's taking to push new features in. i recently finished (or nearly so), a relatively major code change that makes SMF significantly safer by restructuring the system for add-ons. unfortunately, now that i have my head wrapped around how to safely add features (although of course i haven't finished documentation, sigh), i should be able to start changing usability for the better.

also unfortunately, the coming weeks are super busy for rknize and i, so code changes and deployment will continue to be slow for a while.
