TKL w/clears??
« on: Wed, 05 June 2013, 14:28:03 »
Why are TKL boards with clears so hard to find. I understand clears are rare. Supposedly qfr may be coming and wasd v2 one of these days.

Is my best bet just to get someone to customize a current board I have?

Yes, unless you can find someone selling a Leopold FC200R with clears.

Forgot about the Leo. Had one a while ago sold it to small fry. Thinking about just getting switches and have someone mod my qfr. But even switches are hard to come by/expensive.

I have a Leo with clears, nearly new, that I will be selling.

I am realizing I do not like the lighter switches. Its an error fest on browns now after using greens. And I wish the greens were a bit heavier.

Depending on batch, clears can do with a bit of lube tho ;)

There's always the FC660M with clears. I just got that and it's very nice.

Thanks for pointing that out. Forgot about it. Kind of prefer TKL but the layout is pretty close.

Pretty sure the WASD V2 will have clears as an option.

Yah I think I mentioned that in op. I'll definitely take a look at them when they come out.

Actually, I think the default Cherry MX Clear's spring is very strong, for me it's even stronger than Cherry MX Green and  Black. I don't know why, perhaps it's just my feeling. So I suggest that if you go with Clear, you should change the spring with something lighter to create Ergo Clear.

I like stiffer switches. I do remember that when I had clears they felt stiffer than the greens I have now. We'll see when ever I get some.

I think the overall force on clears might be less, but it feels like their actuation point is higher. I have a board with whites as well and I think those feel stiffer than clears. And if I'm not mistaken, white and green are very close.

Lightest to heaviest in actuation force: red/brown/blue, black, clear, white/green, lgrey/tgrey
Lightest to heaviest in bottom out force: red/brown/blue, black, white/green, clear, lgrey/tgrey

Here are figures from IvanIvanovich , I think it can explain why my fingers get tired quickly on the default Cherry MX Clear

Interesting that white/green and clear switch wrt activation and bottom out. Does that have to do with the stems? though I find my fingers get tired more quickly on the stock whites than clears. Although I still insist I need to toughen up my wuss pinkies.
Are there numbers for that or is it just an ordering. I'd like to see how much they actually differ.

It's the force curve of the spring.  Clear's force curve is steeper, not sure if it starts higher tho...
