HHKB Lite (KB-9975 / PD-KB100NB) - Steam Punk Key HELP
« on: Sun, 25 May 2014, 17:23:02 »
I recently acquired a PS/2 HHKB Lite.  The plan is to build it into something and steam-punk it.

But I have hit a stumbling-block - I'm being lazy so I am borrowing the photo from this thread -Topic: What Keycaps? ;)

Obviously, I don't want to destroy the HHKB keys, in case I want to re-use them.  Short of buying a complete replacement set, is there any other way that you can think of that will allow me to add steam-punk style (think typewriter) keys?

Also, if searching for replacement keys, is there any specific name for this type?

Thanks.

HHKB Lite keyboards are not expensive - the best option might be to buy another one or two.

Or I have seen other rubber dome keyboards that are even cheaper, but which have similar keycap stems.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Thanks.

I just pulled a cap off a keyboard at work and it seems the same - time to hit the charity shops methinks.
