I am very happy with my setup, I only wish I had an L-shaped desk because I also use my desk for homework. I don't know if you guys can tell but it can get pretty cramped having a few sheets of math homework out along with a huge, bulky Calculus textbook.

A TKL or 60% keyboard would help there too

Yeah that's the only thing I miss about my Apple Wireless Keyboard but I can compromise some desk space for a number pad.

It's messy now, but it used to be about a million times worse with my old desk. The pedals on the right are only there temporarily; I have a harsh noise project and I'm going on tour in, oh, about 24 hours and I've been putting in some last-minute practice. They're hooked up to my Tascam Porta Two HS, which connects to the interface you can see under the monitor and goes out to the PreSonus Eris E5s.

And yeah I realise things aren't exactly centred on the desk. Still need to tweak the positioning/toe-in angle of the monitors too.

Nice! Is that denon casette player actually in use or is it just a stand for the monitor?

It's in use, I'm one of those dirty hipsters that still buys and plays tapes, hahaha. Hoping to one day upgrade to something like a Nakamichi deck, but for now the Denon is serving me well.

So this is your future casette player(Nakamichi is really nice)?

Haha, perhaps not that one exactly, but yeah, I'd love a Nak. Getting one might be a bit of a hassle though, doesn't seem like there are too many around in Malaysia, and getting one shipped from the US would probably be expensive and run the risk of breaking it/some part of it.

The monitor was too wide for the lower part of the desk, so I had to raise it up. It's an unadvertised feature of the paper ;-)

I had this problem too!  Finally that Diffusion book has a use...   :))

Has anyone run dual screens with ultrawides?  Curious to see how it looks.  Been debating about picking up another one.  I love the single but sometimes...just sometimes...I still want more screen real estate. :-X

Your second screen wasn't an ultrawide!  I meant running two of the AOC 29" or LG 34" together. :p

I was actually thinking of running one on top of the other for movies and such.  Skype, TS, Vent, and music could all be stuffed on the second screen up top.

If all that's on the second screen is that ancillary stuff, I'd rather save my money and just use a cheaper monitor. But if you wanna go legit ballin you don't have many options, huh?   ;)

It's mostly my OCD. :(  I have a lot of spare monitors but not another LG.  I tried running double and triple with them and it just bugged the crap outta me whenever I looked at it.  Might have to bite the bullet and pick up another monitor but I'm not even sure if they have mounts that support this configuration.  I should look into that...

For that purpose I'd rather buy one ultrawide and one high quality monitor imo

Bah, just get 3x ultrawide... then run them all in portrait so you end up with something close to 4:3 LOL.

1440p ultrawide is high enough quality for me.  I don't need that 4k just quite yet.

worth it. but i've never used a slimblade, so i don't know how they feel.

but the cst is sturdy and doesn't feel cheap at all. only problem i'd see with it is if you have small hands. the scroll wheel is near the top middle so you'd have to scoot your hand up a bit if you do have small hands.

Hey, thanks! I got this thing yesterday and it feels really sturdy. I already changed the black ball to red billiard one and it works well :) I have no experience with other trackballs so I can't really compare it to anything or give any further advice to you. I am also planning to add some switches into this thing (this is the version with two jack ports).

It looks like ranger, a terminal-based file manager.
There's an option to display images within it, but I'm not 100% on how it works, even though I use it pretty often.

@Shinryuu:
Tell me more about that trackball.
What do the two switches do?

In my main monitor I'm using lolimpd which is a front-end for controlling mpd. It uses a hacked version of dmenu to display images. In the left monitor I am using text-based file manager called ranger and I display images in a default way (ASCII, you'll need libcaca to achieve this). :p

It's a sit-stand desk from a dot-com era office. I'm planning on replacing the top with some stained wood, it's kind of a weird diamond shape since it was designed to fit in a corner.

Fair enough.  My VT220 is almost brown it is so yellow, but one day I'd like to dig it out and clean it up.  Or maybe the VT420.  Or even the old Link, with its keyboard with MX blacks.  Since a LCD PSU died, we are one monitor down, and my server has no direct interface.  I even unplugged its keyboard to use elsewhere for a while.  A terminal would solve both of those problems.  If only I had the time ... and a serial to USB adaptor ...

The keyboard in the picture has MX blacks, it's a Cherry G80-1306 IIRC, has those cool beige blanks on the F-row, which sadly, I'm sure many were poached for.

Serial actual comes in handy when I manage to kill either my firewall for freenas box (like right now) :P

When this guy comes back into stock it will be $5-10 cheaper

and it comes highly recommended!

What kind of monitor is that?
Also that drink location seems so perilous if you accidentally knock it over.

Depends how many you have already had :p
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I never set drinks on my desk. I have a little side box/table to keep my beverage on.

I like this a whooole lot.  :thumb:

Nice and clean, yet really useful and retro and new.

It's a desk of contradictions.

Just realized I wrote the same thing in different wording... :)) :)) :)) :)) :)) :))

That must make what we say true, and a fact!!!

... dat logic tho...

OK, I'll bite. Mac Mini with a Dell U2412M. The keyboard is a Keyed Up Labs with DSA retro keycaps I got from Signature Plastics last week. And yes, that palm rest is Jenga pieces kept together with a strip of duct tape along the bottom (which also keeps it from sliding around too much). I made it yesterday for $0 and I kind of love how bootleg it is. I guess if the grooves bother me I could put something across the top but I haven't felt the need yet. The desk surface is an old drafting/art board, hence the profusion of cut marks and whatnot. I might get something nicer at some point.

I'm going to take a wild guess at the monitor since jwaz hasn't responded and say that it might be the Asus PB278Q (which looks to be mounted to some sort of arm), which is the same monitor that I have. I could be wrong, though.

Oddly enough, I actually quite like the bootleg jenga wrist rest.  Pretty clever and looks kind of slick in its own way.

Thanks! It kind of randomly occurred to me. At first I had them just loosely stacked — like, well, Jenga blocks — and then it occurred to me to run a strip of duct tape across to keep them together. Nice thing is, it's pretty readily adaptable to different widths: 4 blocks would be about right for a compact keyboard, 5 for a tenkeyless, and probably 6 would cover a full-sized board pretty well. It would also not be hard at all to cut a rectangle of something comfy to lay over the top.
