[Interest Check] - TG3 BL82 (International Redirect) + Deck82 Casings

So some people are aware of the great deal on TG3 BL82's from GlobalTek here

And most know that these are essentially Deck82's for a 1/3 of the cost with a few differences.

Notes about TG3 BL82:
- 2KRO (Some 3 key combos fail)
- Red LED backlight
- PS/2
- Compatible with Deck82 Casing
- Black Cherry MX Switches
- Splash guard (Easily removed)

Some international people were looking at picking these up but the shipping costs from GlobalTek make it not worth the effort. I thought I'd offer the option to some to order a few of these and ship them out USPS to save some money. I don't expect anyone domestic to want to order, unless someone local to me wants to save a bit on shipping (It's about $15 to ship a single board to me, but shipping dropped down to about $4 per board once we ordered 15). I'm not looking to do a massive order as we only save money on shipping and there are some people local to GlobalTek that might be able to offer a better deal.

The other main part of this group-buy is Deck82 casings from http://www.deckkeyboards.com . They're all $15 + shipping and most people found that shipping was nearly the same cost as the casing, even worse for international folk. So I'm offering to order up a bunch of those and ship them out USPS as well. They should be light enough to go First-class, if not still cheaper going Priority.

So if we get enough people interested to save us some money then we'll go through with it. I'll probably pick up one BL82 and case for myself. I do not know the exact dimensions or weight of the box for calculating shipping costs. If anyone has a BL82 and could measure the box it came in (I'll probably modify it to cut off the extra bit at the bottom for the BL82 with trackpad). and weigh it, that would be great.

I want this to be quick, hopefully ordered within a week and shipped out from me the day after I get them. These aren't custom parts so this is just to see how many people want to save a few bucks.

too late, ordered yesterday morning and in the afternoon I got the shipping / tracking number + saying was shipped.... I will be trying to mod mein with the leds in different color, hopefully nothing goes wrong. But if it does I can see my self being in for another TG82, but not for a 2nd clear case, not sure yet. Let this group buy run for lil longer than a week.

I initially posted something about the casings before I realized it was on Deck's site and not Globaltek's.  Since Blaze already has figures for the casings, and I can provide lower cost for the keyboards themselves, maybe we could split this project up.

Anyway, I should emphasize that I work an hour from Globaltek's shipping center, and can pick these keyboards up in person, thus negating a second shipping fee, so you may want to have me do the actual keyboard purchasing instead of troubling yourself, Blaze.

In for a clear case, and to be honest about those cases I think even an order of 5 cases would be well worth it

If several people in one approximate region of a particular country are considering buying these, I would highly encourage them to have the items shipped en masse instead of piecemeal.  For example, for a shipment to Berlin, the shipping costs USPS have quoted for a single parcel of 10 keyboards in one large box have been between $75-110, depending on speed of delivery, insurance, and approximate box dimension/weight changes.

For single units, I've found shipping costs to Germany don't drop below $16.95 USD.

If you haven't bought products internationally before, be advised that customs duties will likely be assessed based on the declared value of the shipment, and coordinate accordingly with the person responsible for initial receipt of the package.

That sounds nice dude, I already have the TG3 and clear case coming in, will do some different color led modding on it, money are not so tight so if all these group buy comes at descent price for both the case and the TG3, I wouldnt mind having another spare board with clear case, or just a spare one in case if I screw up with the current one modding it, which I doubt. Its a great keyboard and some failing 3KRO should not discourage people from buying it, but the clear case is a must!!!! it just makes the board look unique...
 So the heck with it add me in for both and lets see what deal we can ghet from doing GB for both, dont forget to include the gas money if your going to drive a whole hour to the place....

I plan on doing the same thing with my keyboard, what color LEDs were you thinking because I am pretty sure there is a limited selection of either red orange or yellow because of the operating voltage of the red leds.

was looking into this ones http://www.ebay.com/itm/100-X-3mm-Red-Green-Blue-Yellow-White-LED-Light-Bulbs-/320842897801?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4ab3ba1989 but still researching. they dont go over 3.2v and the board is rated at 5v, i think they should be fine

A note, you don't have to get just a clear case, the costs are the same for any color. But I figure most people just want a clear case.

Might just let Typhaeon take over the TG3 BL82 group-buy if that's cheaper/easier, and I'll do the Deck82 casings and order a couple BL82's for myself.

Works with ps2. It works so well mine doesn't even turn off even when I turn my pc off. Which is annoying as hell.

That seems to just be the case with PS/2 just always sending power.

Have you tried FN + (0-7) keys to adjust brightness? Level 0/1 is supposed to be off. You can also use the Up/Down arrows.

It'd definitely be more convenient for buyers to have one thread for both items, even if they were coming from different sources.  After all, the case isn't much use without a compatible model to go with.

been asking my self the same thing, I think I might finally give TG3 call and ask if they sell separate USB cable for the BL82 since they have USB BL82 but they are hard to find, and if the cable is non curly + long enough + it can be plug and play thingy that might be my next mod after I do the LED mod.

But a straight answer from someone who has done it would be nice and whats the process along with it too.

I'm not 100% sure, but I remember digging through the original thread someone posted for these a while back, and they linked to where someone had taken both the Deck 82 and the BL82 apart and compared the internals. There's actually a daughter board missing from the BL82 IIRC. I think it's the USB board maybe? I vaguely remember the guy looking into modding it deciding that it wouldn't be worth the trouble/cost.

That being said, a while back there were some odd BL82's on ebay that had white switches and a USB interface. They needed some sort of mod done to them to get the back lighting working though, because a standard USB port wasn't giving enough current. Something about the keyboard was drawing more power since it was expecting to be hooked up to a cop car I think.

I don't mean to derail this thread at all, but say you want red leds. Are the stock leds on the TG3 BL82 bright enough in comparison to other led mechanicals like the deck, razer, ducky, corsair, etc.

I have nearly no soldering skills, so avoiding swapping out the leds would be a big time saver.

I wouldn't want this dude driving an hour to and an hour from the shipping center just to save $10.

I had some initial feeling-out expressed, but I'm afraid nothing substantive's come about since regarding international group shipments.  It wouldn't be enough of a savings to make too much of a difference beyond maybe 5 at once if these are going across the Atlantic.

Still, I'd be happy to save people money in forwarding their keyboards on, if at all possible.  You're looking at somewhere around $18 for a single package to, for example, Germany.  Still open for larger groups if anyone's at all interested.

I think the demand for the keyboards themselves are pretty low, since I think everyone who wanted them purchased as soon as the deal went up. I think right now is all about the cases.

It died off because most lost interest. I ran out of funding for a few weeks.

My new plan is to just buy a BL82 for myself, and then buy a bunch of Deck82 clear cases to sell to others. That way we don't really need to wait for a group-buy to reach a certain goal.

So, I'm new here. Been lurking, saw the Globaltek deal and jumped on it. Now, I'm really wanting to replace the black casing with a green one. (Hoping for a similar look to http://geekhack.org/showthread.php?11296-Deck-82-Toxic-4-Available)

Anyway, the UPS shipping from deck's store to me is ~14 dollars.

How would this all work out if I wanted to get in on the casing deal?
