[IC] Granite Round 2
« on: Sun, 10 August 2014, 13:16:51 »
It seems we will have a Granite R2 sooner than expected. For those who don't know it, this is what we are talking about http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=56354.0

I'm finalizing this second round that won't be a copycat of the original. If you have requests and suggestions please speak up. Also ideas for the new Nerdom kit are welcome.

Later I'll post the updated kits.

A 1.75u Escape key would be awesome, so I could use it instead of a Caps Lock key.
I always intended to ask for that in R1, but I forgot.

Restating my interest in a Sun Microsystems logo, either 1u or 1.5u

I missed Round 1 by a few days/weeks, so I'd be very interested to see this run again. It would be even better if RU layout did not go away :)

Since I'll basically bought everything in Round 1, I'd only be interested in extra nerdom keys and extra alphas with nice secondary legends like cyrillic.

Yeah, I know you stated this in the actual GB thread.

I just wanted to make clear what I meant with secondary legends. Any language that looks cool is fine ;)

Definitely interested in in both R2 and that Windows pack. Without knowing what all changes are coming, my order would likely consist of:
- Common Kit
- Text mods
- Blue Enter
- Text Pro Mods
- Windows pack

If the space invader key were part of the nerdom kit I would definitely add that to my order as well.

Realforce EK45 (Silenced)  |  Realforce 87UW (45g)  |  Realforce 87UWS (Variable)
Filco MJ2 TKL (Cherry Clears)  |  Phantom 87 (78g Gateron Clears)  |  Phantom 86 (67g Zealios)

So happy R2 is in plan :D

Looking forward to round 2 ! :thumb:

I think the only key I was missing in round one was a 1.25u TAB key (icon and text), The SmallFry 40% needs that. On my wishlist a red space invader sits on top :)

Edit: Oh, I'm also missing a 1.5u shift key (for an ErgoDox), have to check if that was available in the Dox kit.
Edit2: Nm, was in the Ergodoxian kit. Altho having that kit w/ icons would be great.

Interested.

Suggestions:

  • Enter and control (caps lock replacement) key sets in matching colors.
  • Tsangan kit.
  • Arrows in different colors for PBT and legends.
  • ISO kits.
  • WASD kits in new colors.
  • Space bars in alpha, and mods colors. In common sizes.
  • Github icon in 1u, 1,25u, and 1.5u.
  • A number row strip (like Skull's kit)

Definitely in for another nerdom, win pack and whatever language kit you decide on (heard talk of Japanese or Korean this time around). Hopefully SP has a better handle on the sublimation so they turn out as crisp as the centered alphas :thumb:

edit: I'd also really like a Lost & Found Icon pack if possible... I wanted to use Lost & Found w/my Icon modifiers but the mix of icons and text didn't work for me.

What does this mean for midnight and/or retro SA? I've been putting money aside for a few ErgoDox sets, and would rather have SA caps, but would probably go for granite if the SA kit plans have been cancelled.

Edit: Actually, I've had part of my paycheck going to a separate account ever since you were cool enough to add that homing S to midnight SA. I forgot how long ago that was, so I realize now that I can participate in this too without any trouble. Any chance of making this set Malt layout compatible?

c) the off-center legends

what about Malt again?

It's a really cool layout used on the Maltron, a ridiculously ergonomic keyboard. There's a full letter rearrangement, and E is shifted to a thumb-key because of it's frequency in the English language. Basically, all it would need from what you have now is a homing S key, and a 2x E key for the thumb. I've seen a few optimized ErgoDox layouts with E as a thumb key, so it'd not be just for Malt layout users either.

The positions of the Alphas in the Malt layout can be easily adapted to the ErgoDox. More info here:
http://www.maltron.com/keyboard-info/the-maltron-letter-layout-advantage

Edit: If having a couple extra keys for alternate layouts sounds cool, please comment in this thread with your support to make it happen!

For new ideas:
  • I would love a full light color function row. [as opposed to the full darker gray]
  • cym mods [as opposed to rgb] Pantone 17-2036 Magenta || Pantone 16-4529 Cyan
  • Red and green enter keys [maybe cmy colors? or orange?] (enter kit!?)
  • Light gray modifiers & Blank mods for win keys. [loving that win pack though]

For old revisions:
  • I would have liked the red arrows better with the V shape instead of the actual arrow.
  • I missed icon pro. [still wtb]
  • I would like another mono-legend.
  • I would love more goodies like sapce invader key [don't hide it/add it late this time!]
and nerdom. [still wtb a kit...]

Thank you for doing R2.

A mod-colored \ for the mono legend kit would be awesome.
Maybe have some of the Nerdom 1.25u keys redone as 1.5u (especially the Xorg logo, so I can use it on my Viper.)

I don't know yet. Massdrop surely would let us reach a different audience and make this even more successful, but of course it depends on  pricing.

Will this be done by SP and their GB system or via Massdrop?

In the actual GB thread of Round 1 you stated that Massdrop had approached you...

I don't know yet. Massdrop surely would let us reach a different audience and make this even more successful, but of course it depends on  pricing.

Thanks for the fast reply! I think it's worth trying Massdrop - in my opinion their commitment system will help a alot to reach higher tiers. But as you said that makes only sense if their part of the cake isn't too big.

Concerning the nerdom kit:

Would be nice if the kitty made a reappearance! I need more of it :p
