[IC] Series 00 // GB on March 24!
« on: Wed, 17 February 2021, 12:47:08 »

SERIES 00

A machined metal artisan - available in aluminum, stainless steel, and brass.

Take the Series 00 interest survey

Hello everyone.

It’s loop, Cubic, and Isshin of esc lab. We're back on Geekhack to show you all what we've been up to with Series 00 since our first IC.

We learned a great deal during our first IC. So, the past four months, we've been heads down working -- going through multiple rounds of prototyping for Series 00 + the packaging, finding vendors, finalizing the logistic challenges of producing and shipping a product internationally.

Today, we feel we are ready to show you Series 00.

Thank you to everyone that contributed feedback to both esc lab and Series 00 - what you see today is a culmination of that work.

We hope you like what you see, and as always, feel free to let us know what you think.

The Foundry Edition bundle comes with a little something extra ;).

More

3. DETAILS

Series 00 is a familiar R1 Cherry-like profile. It looks sharp, but does not feel sharp.

Each Series 00 has the identification info, AKA Series ID, engraved into the base.
Each keycap is sequentially numbered starting at #00. Will you be lucky enough to get #01, #69, or #420?

Metal artisans fit differently on different switches due to switch stem manufacturing tolerances.
We have tested Series 00 on all the most popular switch families to ensure a good fit and logged the results of each switch.

Each polished Series 00 is individually hand-polished.

4. REVIEWS

We have shipped all five Series 00 off to reviewers so you can get an outside opinion of our artisan. We will continually update this section as we hear back.

6. EASTER EGG HUNT: ENDED ON 03/01/2021

Easter Egg Hunt is an esc lab tradition from IC1 where you try to find an "Easter Egg" hidden in our website for a chance to win a Series 00 prototype.

With the launch of this IC2, the Easter Egg Hunt is back, harder than ever, with the Sandblasted Brass (P3) up for grabs. We've given away three prototypes so far - Black Anodized Aluminum (P0), Polished Stainless Steel (P1), and Polished Brass (P2). Each giveaway proto is also sequentially engraved starting from "P0". Other than through Easter Egg Hunts, there is no other way to get a prototype. We do not sell prototypes. Ever.

The Easter Egg Hunt starts now. There are currently a number of clues spread out across our website leading to a hidden link. Find the hidden link, and you may be the lucky winner.

The Easter Egg Hunt ends on March 1st 2021.

You can join the #easter-egg-hunt channel on our Discord to work with others on the hunt. You'll probably need the help. Or maybe you can throw others off?  ;D

Clue 0/4: If you want to find the egg, you better be at the source.

Click here to start the hunt.

7. TIMELINE

This is the timeline for Series 00 based on our manufacturing and logistics estimates.
As with all IC and GBs, there may be obstacles and delays; it's best to just assume there will be. We will do our best to both hit the estimates and be transparent with you all if there are delays. We will keep you informed with updates on our Discord and Research Facility.

8. TODO

Ship to reviewers

Thank you everyone for the warm comments so far. I will respond to each one by one when things are a little less crazy on my end :)

Imgur going down 20 minutes before this IC post (it was originally going to go up at 10 AM PST. It ended up being almost 11 AM PST before they went back up) definitely threw a wrench in everything.

Also - a few folks have already found Clue 1/4 for the Easter Egg Hunt.

Oh here's a little something extra for you all :)

OP do you still think the community is stupid because people buy "resin sculpted by a 5 year old" for large amounts of money?

I'll fill people in on what OP means by this.

For full transparency, this is what DALE is talking about. I blocked out my own name for privacy reasons, I think I am okay with not get death threats again: https://i.imgur.com/zAE0OEZ.jpg

In August, when I first got serious into the hobby, I didn't know better. I saw hand sculpted artisans posted onto Reddit selling for hundreds of dollars, some hitting a thousand+. I thought these were prices defined by the makers themselves, not knowing that was the aftermarket. I shot a tweet off criticizing it.

Now that I have spent the past months learning about the community, getting into artisans + custom keebs (hell, I own a F1-8X bought in the aftermarket lol, and I'm looking to get a 40% + 65% to complete my collection), both metal + hand-sculpted myself, I know that is not the case.

The comments I made were ignorant and ones I regret.

The criticism the community has on what I said is completely fair, and I don't want people to stop giving me feedback on how to improve.

Thank you for bringing this up!

I got started into this hobby thinking how ridiculous it all was. What was wrong with my Logitech membrane keyboard, it worked?

We all say stuff we regret.

Question: I signed up on the IC form a while back, do you still have all that info or do I need to sign up again?

Looks very pretty.

Are the hand polished brass and stainless steel fingerprint magnets? If so, could some coating be applied to help with that?

Would love to see a copper version next.

Hey Cookie!

I'll be honest, like all polished metals, they are prone to finger prints. Unfortunately this isn't even a problem like Samsung and Apple can solve, even with oleophobic coatings.

We are providing an included microfiber cloth for all Series 00 packaging so you can admire your keycap while clacking away.

As for me? I leave it. I think fingerprints are character. Haha.
